George Baker Blog: Kempton Crowded...

Which is something, barring Boxing Day, that I never thought I would see. Irish Night. The Hothouse Flowers. A decent crowd. A decent atmosphere.....

A far cry from the dread nights of Winter. When The Owners and Trainers Bar is the only place open. Where the smell of tired, stewed vegetables greets one at the door. A "refuge" from the cold outside. A sparse crowd. More Owners and Trainers than paying customers. Often just one or two bookies braving the elements....

A different scene altogether last night. A sun kissed crowd. Packed around the paddock. And out on the lawn in front of the stands....

I have never liked the place. Soulless. Especially since they tore up the turf. But all credit to the team there for attracting an audience. Good fun to have fun at Kempton....

Parisian Princess running in what looked a seriously competitive fillies maiden. And running with great credit. Third behind the two favourites. With the promise of more to come. Jimmy Fortune impressed. Owners Craig Mather and Guy Gisborne on hand. And Anthony Stroud who bought this Teofilio filly in France. A pleasing run.....

Irons On Fire less so. I am afraid we are struggling with him. The fire does not appear to be in the belly...

Brighton, Folkestone and Chepstow today. Persistant rain forecast. And already here. Which could scupper a plan or two. We shall see....

Several working on the grass yesterday morning. More today. Off I go....
