An EBF Maiden Fillies' Stake over 7f.

Na Zdorovie made a pleasing debut at Newbury when finishing second behind the talented Arsaadi. This daughter of Cockney Rebel was a cheap foal at 6,000gns, although closely related to 2,000 Guineas 4th placing Slim Shady. This filly held an entry for the Lowther (Group 2) and presently the Fillies' Mile (Group 1). The form of that initial start has been franked and with experience should run a big race.

Way Too Hot was sent off 9/4f on debut at Newbury and connection clearly expected a bold show. Cox's stable are always worth noting with their fancied juveniles and they are usually pretty consistent thereafter. This daughter of King's Best has enough ability to win a maiden and was simply outpointed by a talented juvenile in Questioning. If a drifter in the betting (unlikely), this filly would be a great each way selection.

Roger Teal is a canny trainer and always worthy of respect. He might not have the biggest string of two-year-old but year after year he has finds the winners. Roman Province ran a cracking race on debut at Folkestone, giving the favourite, Iceni Girl, something to think about in the final furlong before taking second place. This looks a decent race and she may well need to improve to figure but could sneak into a place at fair odds.

Of the others, Idol Eyes may be a dark horse. I noted that this juvenile had been entered to run in a Listed race before she made her debut. Over 6f everything happened too quickly but she ran on with a fraction of encouragement in the final furlong. To be fair, I think it was just an easy introduction. This 7f will be more suiting. I am still encouraged by that Listed race entry and with Hughes taking the ride this juvenile could go much better today.

Conclusion: Na Zdorovie has fair claims although there isn't much meat on the bone at the price. She looks a talented filly who should improve for her debut but it would be a concern if slow from the stalls on this turning course. With experience that shouldn't be an issue but worth noting nonetheless. Clive Cox is a very consistent trainer and Way Too Hot will run a big race. If price allows, this would be a great each way bet. An outsider worth noting is Idol Eyes, especially if backed.

HCE: ''An easy win for Way Too Hot who put the brakes on when clear of the field and didn't look best pleased by Kirby giving her a few backhanders to see out victory. She showed good pace to settle this in a matter of strides and should go on to better things. Na Zdorovie didn't do much wrong but took her time to get motoring. She may be better suited by turf and more of a galloping course.Parisian Princess got third.''
