In truth, both these talents had the race between themselves. However, Gosden's representative has strong claims and clearly capable of winning a maiden race without too many worries. The horse to beat.
William Jarvis has been quiet on the two-year-old front but Besito is held in some regard. This daughter of Kodiac is a good-looking bay and cost 67,000gns at the breeze-up sales. She ran in a very competitive race on debut and travelled well until the latter stages. Fallon went to ride her on the gallops before her second start and was said to have ''liked the filly''. That was a strange race at Ascot, although she pulled clear of the field and wasn't given a hard time when Hello Glory cruised to the lead. The third has won since. It could well be the case that Simcock's winner is a very talented juvenile. Besito is a fair sort and connections will have her primed for a big run today. A filly with fair win and place claims.
Lady Loch was quite fancied on her debut at York. This daughter of Dutch Art is owned by David Armstrong, who has done well with some fair juveniles over the years. She didn't seem to be going anywhere fast on that first start until the final furlong when making eye-catching strides towards the line. This up hill finish may be a saving grace when many will be tiring. On the face of it, that seemed a decent effort. However, I have slight concerns about the merit of that race and although improvement should be on the cards it may well have to be and then some. Fahey has a good strike rate with his fancied runners on their second start and one to respect. At the odds I would rather watch and learn a little more.
Mick Channon's horses have been in good form and Lady Jameela has run well on a number of occasions. She certainly showed good speed last time at Newbury before struggling to keep tabs on Balty Boys, who has lofty plans at Group level. This is a lovely-looking filly. Perhaps she falls a fraction short of the major hopes in this race but must have fair place claims. She seems forgotten on the exchanges at fancy prices and it may be a mistake to ignore this runner. At odds of 20/1 or so, there is a live chance she will be backed down at some point.
Of the others, it is worth watching the betting for Soho Rocks. The Toller juveniles have been in quite good form and he often does well at Newmarket. This daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar cost 110,000gns and holds an entry for the Cheveley Park (Group 1). Money is the key to this ones chances and if substantially backed, expect a big run.
Conclusion: Potentially a decent race. Appointee is the horse to beat but has a few horses in opposition, which may not be simply brushed aside. Besito is a lovely-looking filly and a capable of winning a race or two. She has fair each way claims. I would rather watch Lady Loch although respect her chances if improvement is forthcoming. Lady Jameela is definitely value at huge odds on the exchanges but may fall short of winning but could well scrape a place. Soho Rocks would be a big danger to all if substantially backed.
