Gatepost Wins in Style for Dr Marwan Koukash

Gatepost: on the gallops
A two year old maiden race taken with consummate ease against some highly tried (in the relative scheme of things) opposition as Dr Marwan Koukash's Gatepost romped home by three lengths going away under Jamie Spencer.

The son of Footstepsinthesand has always been a total professional since his arrival at West Ilsley and today's victory on debut hopefully underlines the strength of our juveniles at this very early stage of the season.

"I'm delighted with that," commented Mick, "but I expected him to go very well. Marwan was on the phone this morning and I forgot to remind him that we have a 100% record in his colours!

"This is a lovely colt and we'll look at the Lily Agnes at Chester, which is Marwan's favourite track and always the intentional next step if he went well today.

"He's a smashing guy to train for, he's a sportsman and wants to see his horses running as regularly as possible. That's always been my philosophy and he's recouped some of his outlay on the colt with the Racing Post's Yearling Bonus which is great. We have a lot in common - I'm a doctor like him although I'm yet to find out what he got his doctorate for."

We aren't in the know ourselves, but it's probably a better earnt qualification than Mick's, which he got from Southampton University for kicking a ball around over thirty years ago.
