Wednesday's Thoughts

2:30 Southwell
A selling stakes race over a mile. Littlepromisedland* has not shown much ability on her two starts but there could be improvement over this extra two furlongs and at speculative odds (33/1) has place claims. *NR

4:50 Kempton
Difficult to know what to make of the improved performances of Kuala Limper and Midnight Maasai. The winner of that race, Terdaad, has seemingly been held in some regard but it just may be the case that was a poor race last time and Elsworth and Cox's two-year-olds may still have something to prove. Riot Police would have fair each way claims if his last performance could be forgiven. It is slightly unnerving to see a visor has been changed for blinkers and although this 7f will be less challenging a watching brief is probably the best option unless you chance your luck at decent odds. Club Oceanic should be respected being owned by Sir Robert Ogden and costing 210,000gns. It is never easy for juveniles to win on debut and especially so on turning tracks. However, if this colt by Cape Cross is heavily backed it would be a sign of confidence. A puzzle of a race.

5:20 Kempton
A maiden over 7f. Sirius Prospect must have strong claims for the Ivory team and I can imagine they will be disappointed if they do not gain a win today. This expensive breeze-up purchase of 115,000gns has set a decent level of form and from a good draw has a leading chance. The maid danger is Jameel. A beautifully bred colt, the dam won the Rockfel Stakes and Coronation Stakes and second in the 1,000 Guineas. Godolphin have an excellent strike rate at Kempton and there is much to like about this son of Monsun. However, he still has to prove he has enough ability to beat a fair juvenile on debut and on balance that is far from a straightforward task.
