Sunday's Thoughts

12:40 Lingfield
Just the one two-year-old race today - a restricted auction maiden over one mile. An open race with limited form on offer and a fancied debutante. Circus Star doesn't enthrall even at this level after being completely outpaced at Kempton. On a turning track, where the emphasis can often be placed on speed and sitting in a handy position, Meehan's youngster will need to show last time's effort to be all wrong but doesn't inspire confidence. Perhaps this American-bred colt will be all the wiser today? His first two runs have shown a distinct lack of pace and I would be careful with this horse and if chancing a bet, you may get much greater odds in-running. Mulaqen deserves respect simply for being owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum and running at this level. Tregoning has fair win and place statistics on his second start with fancied juveniles although not outstanding. The form of his debut is probably average, behind effortless winner Elas Diamond. Mulaqen has claims in a poor race but is difficult to assess although an athletic sort. Another with place chances is Whiplash Willie, who showed fair speed at Bath over a mile. Again, the winner was in a different class and the form of those behind looks nothing special. However, this is a drop in class and Balding is good at placing their youngsters which makes him one of the more likelier types. It is never easy for a two-year-old to win on debut but John Gosden has a respectable win and place rate with his fancied juveniles (13/2 & less). Cantor, is closely related to top-class Chorist and this Cheveley Park Stud representative could be the horse to beat. A difficult race to asses. Whiplash Willie is a tentative selection with place claims.
