Saturday's Thoughts

1:25 Newmarket
A large field for this fillies' maiden over 7f on good to soft ground. Choral may have fair each way claims although it is difficult to appreciate whether this drop in trip will be to her advantage. A small filly, she has been in fine form of late and looks in good condition. The form of her last two runs is solid and experience will be a plus against the majority of debutantes. The slight concern is if this daughter of Oratorio became outpaced, although in these back-end maidens they don't usually set a frantic pace.

7:20 Wolverhampton
A restricted auction race over this extended 5f(216y). Not too many of interest. Strictly Pink seems a much better juvenile on the all-weather surfaces and will certainly have her supporters today, especially with Hanagan in the saddle. It is difficult to evaluate the level of form she has set but on balance she is likely to run a big race and a leading player. Stella Magic ran a fine race at Windsor last time and the winner Glas Burn ran well at Listed class yesterday. Jarvis has poor statistics at Wolverhampton and hopefully this filly will bring about a change of fortunes at this course. This step up in distance will be a positive and one with strong place claims. At a price Crucis Abbey is worth noting and could be a fair each way bet at double-figure odds. Unett's colt has shown glimmers of ability at this course and the testing ground over 7f at Warwick didn't prove to his liking.
