Only three two-year-old races today and not a huge amount of interest.

Pity Cheyenne Chant is a non runner as Shaluca must have fair each way claims in this. Not too keen on just the two places which makes me hold back a little. McMahon does well with his juveniles especially second time out and it is encouraging that this filly was a pretty short price on debut and running at Nottingham which is often a sign for one of theirs.

A half competitive maiden for colts and geldings over this extended mile. Palio Square ran well last time in a stakes event, plugging on well after looking inexperienced, and will appreciate this extra furlong - one of the main contenders for this. Pytheas has been consistent bar one disappointment but seems to be struggling to gain that first win. One horse that may be of interest at a price is Hail Bold Chief. This colt didn't achieve a great deal on debut, however, Alan Swinbank is a talented trainer and his juveniles can be transformed from their first to second run. Clearly, this son of Dynaformer will have to attain a fair level of ability to win this but it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see this two-year-old improve on that initial performance and show greater promise today.
BET: 1/2PTEW Hail Bold Chief (available at 20/1+) (5th)

Another quiet day...
A fair number of two-year-old races with cards at Kempton, Leicester and Lingfield. A number of maidens which are predictably weak at this time of year, however, there is always a chance a decent juvenile can win these decisively.
I will update at 12:30 although I doubt there will be any tips today. I am not keen on putting forward too many general pointers unless juveniles are speculatively priced. (All this mentioning even money favourites is a waste of time.)

25th October - General Thoughts
No racing this Sunday so just a few general thoughts regarding the blog, the season and future goals.
I was pleased to have a few quid on Andrew Balding's Gardening Leave yesterday. It is unfortunate I couldn't detail this juvenile as a tip but being a statistical bet it was impossible at the cut-off point at 12:30 and I only made a decision to bet myself with a few minutes to the off. I actually had a bet on Aultcharn, too. Thought a place was a near certainty while watching only to see Meehan's juvenile struggle in the soft ground and plod home 6th. There is such a fine line between winning and losing at times - and this season has proven that point time after time. Our recent second with Alan Swinbank's Fourth Generation was a disappointing day. In future, with potential substantial win bets, I will put a few quid to lay at 1/5 so I am guaranteed a decent win whatever the outcome. It is boarding on crazy to have a horse touch 1/33 in-running and not win money. I hadn't really considered such a thought before the race and not even as our horses battled for a win. I was shouting at the TV so much that I just didn't have a chance to think of anything but - win! I live and learn, as usual.
In general, I am happy with my thoughts. Next season will be a much better year and I am confident that supporters of the blog will benefit from a number of speculative bets. Our research has identified a number of trainers who not only win at speculative prices but do so on quite a regular basis. We are getting there. This year has been positive although I feel our points profit could have been much better. There is always something to consider but we have been quite consistent in our little way. I feel that we have shown elements of ability but trust me there is much more to come next season. Tony, my brother, will be forwarding a number of speculative bets. He has done very well over the past few seasons but with work commitments he hasn't been able to add to the blog as we anticipated this year.
There is little doubt we will be forwarding more tips next season. We definitely fell into the trap of trying to be too selective at the start of this season, which really caused problems in many respects. There is often no logic to why one bet wins and another loses. It is sod's laws that the seemingly better choice runs like a pig and the half-interest wins in style. There is certainly a lot to be said for pinpointing juveniles at a speculative price. We rarely give selections less than 11/4 and to be fair I feel more comfortable with 7/2 as a starting point. But the big money comes from those infrequent big price touches.
This season is drawing to a close and I will be pleased to have a well-earned rest. There is far too much racing these days and just following the two-year-olds is hard work. I haven't considered any nurseries this season and generally concentrated on the maidens, auctions and the odd stakes race. I can't say I have missed the handicaps or feel that chances have been missed. Each to there own. If someone can make their racing pay then good for them. We specialise with two-year-olds and there are few blogs/tipping services which do that. This season has been a learning curve, as they always tend to be.
I will probably update the blog and put forward a few tips when the turf season finishes although you can never quite tell what standard of horse or opportunities may appear on the all-weather. The general standard of juvenile last season was next to hopeless and I can't say I noticed many runners of note. I hope all of our followers will continue to support the blog next season as I feel you will be pleasantly surprised by our performance. There will be many more bets right from the start of the season and a focus on speculative bets which have the potential to offer very good returns. Gareth, youngest brother and our web expert, is looking to make H.C.E much more impressive and certainly developing this service. The key point is we want you to stick with us. I can only hope that all of the people who have followed our tips are satisfied with the service and feel they have gained from our knowledge of the two-year-olds. This season hasn't been anywhere near as successful as I hoped but we have proved we have the potential to progress. I would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in H.C.E and continue to follow the rest of this season but especially the new flat season in 2010.
As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the support from readers and other bloggers alike.
From 33 tips we gave 8 winners featuring a 24% win rate and 18 win/place attaining 54% place with over 25 points profit.

Jason

19th October
A number of races today but mostly nurseries which I rarely consider as betting opportunities.
2:00 Windsor
A very restricted auction race for colts and fillies. No doubt Bronze Beau will be making a sprint for the line and, as usual, get caught in the final furlong. Stubbs will get a win out of this colt, who in truth deserve to sneak a victory at some point. I will keep an eye on the betting for Fire Raiser, trained by Andrew Balding. It's not too encouraging to see this gelding raced in a claimer on debut but if fancied in the betting could well have each way chances. Mr Money Maker is quite short price for Dascombe on debut and that is often an indicator of a big run.

A big day for the two-year-olds with the Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) taking place at Newmarket and later the Rockfel Stakes (Group 2) for good measure. Not too much of interest for me apart from keeping an eye on the 2:50 Catterick. Will update at 1pm.

16th October
A fair number of races today.
3:55 Redcar
A sizable auction race which looks difficult to solve. A horse that may be worth a second look is Fourth Generation, trained by Alan Swinbank. A talented handler, his two-year-old could improve on that initial performance and go well at specualtive odds. You can never be confident on a speculative bet but this juvenile is worth a chance today.
Bet: 1/2PTEW Fourth Generation (available at 25/1) (2nd)
"Ran a great race but just losing out by a short-head."

14th October
A quieter day but one horse of interest.
6:50 Kempton
Terry Mills does very well with his juveniles on the all-weather and Monterey an expensive colt by Montjeu can leave a disappointing first run behind him. Mills suggested that this was one of the best juveniles he had trained. Whether that is true or not time will tell but this two-year-old could run a big race today.

13th October
1:50 Newcastle
Quite a tough race with the favourites Deirdre and Woodford Belle holding prominent chances. I am interested in Shayla trained by Alan Swinbank. This filly needs to improve but this step up to a mile could bring about a stronger effort today. The stable is in good form and the two-year-olds have been going well of late. At a speculative price, this juvenile is worth a punt.
Bet: 1/2 PTEW Shayla (available at 33/1) (7th)
4:40 Leicester
Argaum has his work cut out to beat Botanist, but should have decent place claims and a fighting chance of sneaking a win. Swinburn is a talented trainer and his juveniles, especially under this ownership, are worth noting. I would be more hopeful of this colt's chances if he was backed.

12th October
A good number of two-year-old races today at Salisbury, Windsor and Kempton. Have my eye on a couple so will update at 1pm.
2:40 Salisbury
A fillies' maiden over this 7f. Probably a decent heat with a few big trainers represented here. I will be watching Shimmering Moment. This juvenile was originally trained by Karl Burk, then Alan Jarvis, and now Henry Cecil. Such a string of changes makes it difficult to assess this juvenile although, strange as it may seem, I would have been betting today if it was still trained by Burke. Certainly a horse I will be watching.
3:15 Salisbury
The second division is quite an interesting event. Cojo is worth a mention but whether I bet or not depends on this ones starting price and at this moment I can't come to a conclusion. Meehan is a very good trainer and he is particularly good at getting juveniles to win on their second start. Eddie Ahern has a good strike race, too, which is encouraging. If fancied, this could go well.
A watching day.

9th October
3:55 York
Decent prize money for this maiden and a half competitive with a number of form horses on show. Walvis Bay has been made favourite for this, although Tate's juvenile may have disappointed a touch last time. Orchid Wing didn't cost much at the sales but is certainly short in the betting, which adds to his chances. Fahey sends a number of talented juveniles to York and it would be no surprise to see this colt by Avonbridge run well. Excellent Vision is one of the main fancies for me. An expensive purchase at 190,000gns as a two-year-old, and relatively unfancied on debut, Smart will be expecting much more today. An outsider with claims is Lucky Windmill. Swinbanks has been flying with his two-year-olds this season and I get the feeling this gelding by Lucky Story is capable of better. It wouldn't surprise me to see this juvenile backed.

1:35 Newbury
Strictly Dancing ran a fair race on debut and with improvement should have decent claims. Aultcharn is an interesting debutant for Brian Meehan and well regarded within the stable. This trainer's juveniles usually improve with racing, but this colt is certainly worth considering on future efforts.
4:25 Newbury
This looks something of a match in the betting. Lunar Victory ran well in a conditions stakes race on debut and that was a good effort for a first run. Dancing David is a likely improver and at about 11/4 is a fair bet.

6th October
2:10 Leicester
Faithful One and Eleanora Duse re-opposed today. The former, trained by David Lanigan, had a couple of lengths advantage on that occasion, however, Stoute's juveniles was making late headway and it could be a close call with that experience on side. Boogie Diva was made favourite for a conditions stakes race last time and was put in her place. She seems the sort to keep getting placed but struggles to win.
3:20 Folkestone
Quite interested in Sard for this maiden over 6f. This filly didn't achieve a great deal on debut but has the potential to improve for that run. Costing 80,000gns, this daughter of Bahamian Bounty is certainly worth considering today. Jarvis does well with his juveniles when fancied on their second start.
3:30 Catterick
A difficult race to assess with many of these disappointing along the way and many on something of a recovery mission. Fear Nothing is a battler but the form of his third isn't particularly strong. Definitely one with a chance, a good-looking colt, but may be similar to many of these. Final Ovation has seemingly come back to form after losing his way. I would be dubious about this two-year-old. The same applies to Trinder. Commanche Raider has been off course for a long time but showed promise on debut in a fair race. Final Ovation beat Dod's juvenile that day, however, it may be a different this time round. An interesting race but more of a watching brief.
A watching day.

3rd October
Another day of big sales races. Great events to watch and always worth a quid or two if you see a speculative price on offer. Couple of races of interest but the prices are on the short side which tempers my enthusiasm.
2:10 Redcar
I fancy the chances of Tesslam but with so many non-runners the price has made this by all accounts a watching race. Ideally, I would be looking for an each way price, but that would seem very unlikely. Jarvis and Robinson are always a good combination and this drop in class should suit this chestnut colt by Singspiel.
6:45 Wolverhampton
Never The Waiter, although not well drawn, must take some beating over this 6f. A Group-entered two-year-old and second string when running well on debut, has all the hallmarks of a Meehan improver. Once again, I was hoping for an each way price, and I note that a few got on at bigger odds with Betfair early, but the price is going by the moment and it wouldn't surprise me if this went off quite a short-priced favourite. A big chance today without a doubt.
A watching day.

1st October
Once again not too much happening. A few fancied juveniles today but all seem a little short priced to be given as tips. I will put down a few pointers as general interest.
1:50 Ayr
Kellys Eye is expected to run a big race today.
2:30 Newmarket
Brannagh is held in high regard by the stable. However, Noseda's first time out statistics are not that impressive. Interesting to see Best's Chat De La Burg seems quite fancied in the betting. I would certainly take note of this juvenile second time out if fancied today. His juveniles often run into a place of debut but few win. Great Intrigue is well owned and was substantially backed last time when seeming to disappoint. Moore's juvenile could run much better today.
8:45 Wolverhampton
Arte Viva ran a great race on debut and will be a tough nut to crack here. The price doesn't inspire although this could be a talented juvenile. Alice Alleyne has run well and not done anything wrong on two starts and must be in the frame.
A watching day.
