4:30 Wolverhampton (29th June)

A maiden over 7f on this all-weather course for colts and fillies.

A number of form horses here.

Coloursoftheglen ran a good race last time and just lost out to a capable juvenile. This colt looks a reliable sort and Dascombe is in fine form as usual. A big run should be expected.

Karl Burke's Bradford will appreciate this 7f after struggling to go the pace on both starts and doing all his running at the finish. This two-year-old is progressing with racing and has to be given a big chance.

It is difficult to know what to think about Motivational. Lanigan's two-year-old seemingly ran a decent race on debut at Leicester although that was only a small race. The form has been boosted by a couple of recent winners although Motivational's last run was pretty poor. He was a little keen at the start and that was a messy race but even so you would need to have a good excuse for that disappointment. I would want a decent price to consider his chances today.

Bandear hails from a stable that has numerous successful two-year-olds this season, However Clive Brittain doesn't have the best statistics on debut. This filly would be more significant if a short price.

Not the easiest race to assess and the prices are giving little away. Coloursoftheglen and Bradford are the most likely to win this.

7:55 Musselburgh (29th June)

A restricted auction maiden over 5f.

Mark Johnston's Licence To Till is a surprise package in this race costing $130,000. It is difficult to know whether this juvenile is talented or not but the price tag is certainly unusual for a race of this type. The betting should be the best guide.

Mal And Dave has run well on his last two starts. This two-year-old is fast and has a bit of size but seems to keep finding one too good.

Ignatieff has been running consistently and last time was unlucky to be beaten by a debutant. He is a strong juvenile, if not keen, and will run a decent race although, again, seems to just struggle to get in front. With so many races under his belt, you have to wonder that he is likely to regress at some point.

Mercers Row showed very good speed at Carlisle but faded tamely in the final furlong. This juvenile would have to have needed the run that day to have any hope here.

Licence To till is the unknown quantity but Ignatieff is probably the most prove of these and show run a decent race.

2:00 Salisibury (28th June)

A maiden over the extended 6f(212y).

A pity to see State Fair being withdrawn from this race as this looked an interesting match between Cole's juvenile and Lord Zenith.

Lord Zenith is a big colt with a lot of scope for improvement. He was off the pace at Newbury before running on well looking as though this extra distance would help. Balding has a good success rate with his juveniles on their second start and this two-year-old will take some stopping today.

Beckett and Sanders is always a good combination and Kensei has been quoted as a decent type. It will be difficult to beat Balding's juvenile on debut although Beckett has good place statistics with all his two-year-olds on their racecourse bow.

This looks a prime opportunity for Lord Zenith.

A watching race.

Race review: 'An easy win for Lord Zenith who could go on to a higher level after this victory. Kensei was the only one in opposition to put down a challenge but that didn't last for long, and lost second place to Cafe Greco.'

4:10 Salisbury (28th June)

Quite a competitive race for an auction stakes and fair prize money on offer.

Orpen Grey is fancied in the betting after an easy win at Warwick. I was disappointed by the performance of Admin that day and wonder if the form has much too it. At relatively short odds I would rather watch.

Harry Dunlop seemed to hold Practitioner in high regard after his win at Salisbury. This gelding may be better suited to 7f in time. The form of that debut is certainly not of the highest level and improvement is needed.

Yer Woman is an interesting filly. She looked to have little chance when outpaced at Windsor last time but made up a terrific amount of ground in the final furlong to win quite well. This step up to 6f will be in her favour and she has a opportunity to progress.

Daniella De Bruijn has run with credit and may be of interest at speculative odds.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Orpen grey won this in the style of a high-class juvenile, going clear in the final two furlongs. Not much distance between the place horses, which are generally auction maiden standard, rather than stakes. Dascombe will be making plans for this grey colt.'

2:20 Newmarket (27th June)

A competitive fillies listed race with prize money over £17,000.

Never the easiest of races to assess although a few of interest.

Simon Dow must have been delighted with the performance of Curtains at Royal Ascot and this speedy filly should run well. Jira was behind that day but may be capable of running better as she showed good speed but the draw, and running over the far side, may have been a problem. I feel that Brittain's juvenile will show more.

Karl Burke has been almost unstoppable this season with his juveniles and Jeanie Johnston won very easily last time although you have to wonder what the opposition amounted too.

John Dunlop's Mudaaraah won well at Folkestone and the form of that race has been boosted by the second and third. This filly by Cape Cross could be classy.

An outsider worth considering is Vanishing Grey. Meehan is a very talented trainer and this filly done well to finish as close as she did at Leicester as she was slow away and veered to her right before making good headway. If she has started on level terms I think she would have gone close to winning, and that was a good race for a maiden. This is a step in class but at fair odds she could have a fighting chance.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Not much separated many of these and a battle to the line. Jira may have been slightly disadvantaged by running from a high draw at Royal Ascot and today she prevailed with a narrow win. Jeanie Johnston has plenty of speed and looked for much of the way to have the edge of most but wandered slightly under pressure and lost out close home. Electric Feel ran well to take third. Curtains done little wrong and wasn't helped by the antics of Jeanie Johnston. Vanishing Grey may have suffered by running near the rail and travelled well for most. She has ability and will be winning soon.'

6:00 Doncaster (27th June)

Not too many of these have a chance over this 7f.

Layali Al Andalus done well on debut against juveniles with a fair level of ability and experience. This step up to 7f will certainly suit this big colt by Halling. Mark Johnston has some talented two-year-olds and this horse has a progressive look.

Cape D'Or didn't have much luck on debut over 6f at Newmarket being badly hampered in the closing stages and losing all chance thereafter. Costing 100,000gns, this juvenile must be capable of winning a race or two and must be respected here.

Marco Botti's Fonterutoli has claims and this 7f will be of help, however, more is needed today.

Layali Al Andalus has a big chance here although Cape D'Or will be looking for better.

A watching race.

Race review: 'An easy win for Layali Al Andalus who could go on to bigger and better things after this success.'

7:20 Lingfield (27th June)

Quite an interesting maiden over 5f.

This race has a couple of potentially decent juveniles here. Val C ran an encouraging race at Warwick especially considering there seemed to be a track bias that day which favoured the first and second. I think that was a fair effort and Littmoden's filly has ability and will run a big race over this quick 5f.

Tom Dascombe's newcomer, Where's the Soap, has been entered to run in two stakes race and this is a positive sign for this stable. Most of their two-year-olds are forward enough to do themselves justice although experience over this sharp track is something that must be considered.

Nepotism and Pintura have both shown elements of ability although I think Val C and Where's The Soap will be the best here. Val C gets the nod because she has the edge on experience.

A watching race.
Pintura (NR)

Race review: 'Nepotism was well backed and won by half a length from the fast-finishing Point To Prove with Val C the same distance away in third. Difficult to know what this race amounted to as the second and fourth had not shown much ability on their starts. Where's The Soap didn't follow attain much on debut and will need to improve to merit stakes race entries.'

2:20 Doncaster (26th June)

A maiden fillies' race over 6f.

The one thing I know about Cherry Bee is that she will appreciate this extra furlong and it could make a big difference. On both her previous starts she has been run off her feet and then plugged on in some style at the finish indicating this 6f will suit. A sizable filly, I can see her running a big race.

Iain McInnes is a capable trainer and has the knack of winning on his second start. Perfect Blossom travelled well that day, in a fair race, and faded late on, which may have been due to fitness. This fillies' dam, Perfect Peach, trained by Chris Fairhurst, was a decent two-year-old and could well run a race today especially with that initial experience on side.

Marco Botti's Proper Littlemadam ran an encouraging race on debut at Doncaster although the form of that race, bar the winner, doesn't seem that strong. I could see this filly improving as she wasn't given a hard time that day although improvement is needed. The betting will be the best guide to this one.

Seeking Dubai is from a talented trainer and money would be encouraging but winning on debut is a tough ask.

Wigan Lane may appreciate this step back to 6f although she doesn't look the most talented juvenile and may be vulnerable.

Not the easiest race to assess as a number have something to prove. Cherry Bee and Perfect Blossom are most interest.

A watching race.

Race review: 'This had the look of an auction event rather than a decent maiden. Wigan Lane has improved with racing and appreciate this 6f, which helped her keep a handy position. She ran a decent race to hold the prolonged charge of Cherry Bee who seemed to be running light today - not as big and strong as I thought. Seeking Dubai showed an element of ability to take third. Perfect blossom didn't have much luck being restrained today and then finding a wall of horses in front of her when travelling well. McInness' juvenile is worth another chance.'

2:30 Folkestone (26th June)

A very restricted auction maiden for colts and fillies over 7f.

Quite an interesting race.

Before I start, I would like to ask the real George Baker to 'Please stand up!' The triple George Baker-named phenomenon of horse, trainer and jockey deserves to be a winner for that point alone - and may do just that. This gelding by Camacho didn't show on debut but ran a great race second time out and ran with credit in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. You have to consider the trainer knows best whether this step up to 7f with be ideal and in a race of this nature should run a big race. You always have to have slight concerns that previously running over 5f, a juvenile may be liable to pull, and that is a worry.

Danger Mulally is an interesting runner for Andrew Balding. This gelding by Governor Brown was backed on debut and this is an encouraging sign for Balding, often indicating a future winner. This juvnile travelled well for much of the race at Goodwood and then faded, looking quite poor. There was something very strange about that Goodwood race and the form of many should be taken with a pinch of salt. Danger Mulally will appreciate this 7f and although having much to prove isn't without a hope. They key to this juveniles' chance is the betting - if fancied again, expect a big race.

It is always interesting to see Jamie Spencer booked to ride for Callaghan and Al Khimiya has at least prove that 7f is not a problem. I don't think the Catterick race was that good event, as it was very restricted, but this filly showed a good, battling attitude after looking the winner for much of that race. Not the easiest of form lines to assess.

John Dunlop has done well at Folkestone in recent years although his general win rate on debut is very poor. The betting will be the best guide to this ones chance.

Tom Dascombe's Valmina cost a lot of money to sneak into this grade and the trainer is very capable of winning on debut, however, the booking of Richard Smith may be a negative.

George Baker (all of them) could have a smile on his face (do horses smile?) after this race. It will be interesting to see how this gelding copes with the extra furlongs. Danger Mulally would be a interest if priced in single figures. These are the two of most interest. Al Khimiya will get the distance and run a race but may be vulnerable.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A strange race. The far side was said to have much quicker ground and perhaps this benefited Huygens to win this quite well. Coakley is a very capable trainer always finds a two-year-old with a touch of ability each year and this colt was an expensive purchase to get in this race. Astonishment was one of four to race the far side and finished second after showing little on debut. One of the form horses, Al Khimiya, ran a solid race from the near side beating all her opposition by a country mile to take third. George Baker didn't show a jot and never seemed to be travelling. Perhaps Royal Ascot tainted this juvenile. This looked a modest race.'

2:15 Warwick (25th June)

A restricted auction race over 5f.

Clive Cox's Reddy To Star has gone close to winning on his last three runs but I wonder if it will be fourth time unlucky again. This well balanced horse has an element of speed but is there to be shot at once more. I wouldn't back this juvenile.

Tucker's Law has shown an element of ability in ways but on the other side of the coin has proven little. This may be a poor race but I still consider Millman's juvenile will struggle to win this.

Henry Candy is a very talented trainer and one I respect, especially in auction events with two-year-olds. This relatively cheap purchase is probably best assessed by the betting. In addition, Candy doesn't have a very good win rate on debut and this will be a handicap against the more experienced types over this speedy track.

Mdawee comes from a trainer quite capable of winning on debut and someone who has done very well with his runners at Warwick this season. If this juvenile is backed it would be a very good sign because Dascombe has plenty of talented two-year-olds and they know what it takes to win a race.

I think on her day Fenella Rose is a talented juvenile - but also a very temperamental one. An attractive filly by Compton Place, she will make many of these look quite ugly. Many of her supporters will be hoping she doesn't turn ugly herself by being awkward to go in the stalls or throw the towel in when pressed as she seemed to be at Leicester. At her best she must have enough ability to run a very big race here but her character leaves a lot to be desired and all too often temperamental horses never fulfill their initial promise. If you bet, you will be hoping for her to have a good day. Not the easiest of circumstances to make a bet. The classic if you bet she loses and if you don't she wins. It's a dilemma.

A difficult race in ways. Most of the form horses seem to have good reasons for losing, which is different. I will be watching with interest. I would need a decent price to even start thinking about betting here. A fascinating race.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Only three juveniles ever featured here and another winner for Tom Dascombe with Mdawee. Reddy To Star ran his typical race and found one too good. He has just about enough ability to win an auction event but is so on the edge of that level that there's always one that little better. Fenella Rose was very weak on the exchanges then very well backed late on. More holding-up tactics were employed today and she came with a decent effort but Atzeni (jockey) seemed to find problems by trying to go through a gap that was never there. A shame he didn't take the inside route. I doubt she was have been quite good enough to win although a chance would have been a positive.'

2:30 Newcastle (25th June)

Quite a restricted auction maiden over 6f.

Not too many of interested here. The two most likely candidates are Silenceofthewind and North Central.

There is little doubting the former named is liked by Burke and contesting a stakes race on debut and then considered for Royal Ascot says that this attractive colt is fancied to win a race or two. I would expect a big run today.

North Central contested an even stiffer race packed with talented juveniles. Howard Johnson's two-year-old was run off his feet for much of that race, which is hardly surprising with such inexperience, but ran on in the manner of a decent horse. This juvenile looks plenty good enough to win an auction event and must be considered.

It is intriguing why Burke has entered Paradise Sceptre for this when he has a big chance with either juvenile alone. The betting will be informative but I would go with Silenceofthewind.

Of the unraced Lord Aeryn must be respected, but will need to be a very good horse to win this on debut. It is possible, however this will be a stiff task.

A very interesting event and I can see this being a battle between Silenceofthewind and North Central.

A watching race.

Paradise Sceptre (NR)

Race review: 'Another easy winner for Karl Burke and the progressive Silenceofthewins. This colt certainly has his share of ability and fairly cruised through this race to win comfortably. Tim Easterby's Antoniola ran on well to take second without any trouble and may have ability. Powerful Pierre improved significantly from his debut. North Central was rather keen for much of the race and then lost his place and was always struggling thereafter. He drifted markedly on the exchanges late, which is somewhat concerning. Perhaps capable of better, he will need to bounce back after this display.'

2:00 Carlisle (24th June)

A maiden race over this extended 5f(193y).

Trailblazing seems very well fancied on the exchanges after showing nothing on debut. If favourite here you would have to expect a big race although I wouldn't be tempted with so much to prove.

Another who falls into that bracket is Reallymissgreeley who didn't show much on debut and certainly needs to improve.

Karl Burke has been in very good form and I was disappointed by the run of Merseyside Star at Ripon. This is a lovely-looking colt, a strong, deep-chested type. Perhaps time will tell that the Ripon race is quite good. At this moment it is difficult to say if that is true or not.

Quite a puzzling race. I am most interested in Merseyside Star but more watching and learning than betting.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Merseyside Star and Trailblazing battled to the line with something in hand of the rest, and Burke's good-looking colt won by a narrow margin. His trainer suggested he hadn't handled the course at Ripon and it was good to see this colt progress. Johnston's Trailblazing is a big, strong juvenile and lost little in defeat. Gypsy Jazz run well o take third. Reallymissgreeley was well backed but ran no race and Ryan's stable is having a poor time of it lately.'

2:30 Carlisel (24th June)

A restricted auction maiden over 5f.

A poor-looking race where most have something to prove. Midnight Martini has run well and had a fighting chance on both starts. Easterby's filly by Night Shift is probably the most consistent of these and should run a big race.

Gower Sophia is very small and perhaps her last disappointment was a sign that she has had one race too many. I wouldn't dare back her today although if she returns to her best would have a very good chance of winning.

Both Emerald Girl and Raine Supreme need to improve on the debut runs. Neither really got into the race until it was finished and they may be run of their feet again. McMahon has very good statistics for his juveniles on their second start and if relatively short in the betting (13/2 & less) then a big run may be on the card. Both need to find more today.

Being a cheapish bunch, the debutantes are less likely to have natural ability and why the form horses are of most interest here. Midnight Martini sets the level and connection will be hoping for a big run. She has an element of ability but probably average.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A poor race and little ability on display here. Midnight Martini had this race won a long way from home, a deserve victory after a couple of fair efforts. Beyond the second, Emerald Girl who may have a chance in a poor race, many of the others are continuing to disappoint. Gower Sophia has regressed and should be avoided.'

7:20 Kempton (24th June)

An interesting fillies' maiden over this turning 6f.

Not the easiest race to appreciate although a couple of nice-looking horses.

Athwaab ran well from a low draw at Lingfield in a race that was decent for an auction event. Rio Mist was behind that day and on that viewing you would think she would struggle do reverse the form. Hannon's filly (Rio Mist) was given an easy introduction in ways and this step up to 6f may bring about improvement as some of their juveniles have sprouted wings from one start to the next. On the balance of things I would think Athwaab has her beating though.

Angel Of Fashion is a capable juvenile with experience, which helps around here. Each run has shown promise but also vulnerability in always meeting one a little better. The Leicester race was quite competitive and she was run off her feet before staying on at the finish. She will be better suited by this 6f but is likely to find one too good. A good, consistent sort, at least you know what you get with her.

Pastel Blue and Raddy 'Ell Pauline are interesting two-year-olds not so much in what they have achieved on course but how they look - both are attractive fillies. Pastel Blue ran in a fair maiden and showed ability before tiring in the final furlong or so. I got the feeling they were there more for the experience and it wouldn't surprise me to see this filly improve significantly today. Raddy 'Ell Pauline is a strong filly and didn't have much luck in running at Doncaster, but was beaten a decent way at the finish. Quite well fancied in the betting, she could be capable of better although she needs to be to take this.

An intriguing race where Athwaab and Angel Of Fashion set the form while Hannon's Rio Mist has the chance to improve with the good lookers, Pastel Blue and Raddy 'Ell Pauline, thrown into the mix.

A watching race.

Race review: 'This may turn out to be a decent race. The good, strong Raddy 'Ell Pauline had a transformation and ran on well to win by just over one length. Piccadilly Filly ran a stormer and for much of the way looked to have the edge on her opposition. The Morrison-trained Hot Pursuits ran a much improved performance ahead of the attractive Millifera in fourth. The first and second favourite were well beaten and it is either the case they disappointed or this was a strong maiden. The jury is out at the moment but it could well be a race full of winners.'

6:50 Newbury (23rd June)

A relatively restricted auction maiden fillies' race over 6f.

Lady Pattern has been relatively fancied on both her starts and her second, over 6f, was very encouraging, especially the way she finished her race at Folkestone. This juvenile has a enough ability to go close in a race of this nature.

Clive Brittain has had an excellent season with his two-year-olds and Shibhan is certianly here with a lively chance. She travelled well at Pontefract last time and faded in the last half furlong which made that performance seem a little worse than it actually was. Over this quicker 6f she will again travel well and I can see her running a big race.

Pherousa, trained by Micheal Blanshard, isn't the biggest filly but she didn't lack battling qualities on debut at Salisbury. That was a puzzling race and the field was pretty tight at the line in a division that was much slower than the earlier race at the track. The proximity of Volatilis and Mnarani makes me consider this form may be weak and the fact that a 66/1 shot won doesn't indicate the best of races. Blanshard's juvenile has the chance to progress with racing and may have more to give today. I still think this filly has something to prove.

It is interesting that John Portman sponsors this race and many will be looking towards Bathwick Xaara to run a big race. This trainer's juveniles are always capable of improving but she needs to from what I saw on debut at Newbury. A cheap purchase, she was pushed along for most of the way and always a touch outpaced. That wasn't the easiest of introductions and her jockey was trying hard that day and I don't think there will be much improvement to come.

With such a restricted race, the unraced are in general terms unlikely to attain the level of the form horses. The betting will indicate the most likely.

I think this is out of Lady Pattern and Shibhan. Both look capable fillies at this level and both have good claims.

Bet: 1PT EW LADY PATTERN (AVAILABLE 9/2 VC, 4/1 WITH MOST) (1st)
(I must apologise, but due to unforeseen circumstances this tip cannot be given by email but text service has been used. )

Race review: 'The progressive Lady Pattern travelled well and found her usual strong finish to win well. Blue Maiden took second and continues the good form for McBride who has a number of talented juveniles in his care. Snow Fairy showed some ability after starting slowly ran on with purpose. Shibhan was held up today and seemed rather keen. She may be better with more front running tactics.'

7:25 Newbury (23rd June)

A decent sized field for this maiden fillies' race over 7f.

Not too many with form, but a few worth noting.

Mistic Magic was very well backed on debut at Lingfield over a distance (5f) that was much to quick for her. Connections indicated that they like this juvenile and that it would be better suited by decent ground and a step up in distance. That was a fair race and to run that well was quite an achievement. It is interesting why Cole has chosen this 7f event rather than plump for 6f, although you have to respect the trainer's opinion on these matters. Hopefully this filly by Orpen doesn't pull as many juveniles struggle to accept such a change of running styles - from sprint to stamina racing. An interesting runner.

Brian Meehan has had a quiet time in respect of the number of two-year-olds he has run this season and Secret Queen didn't really achieve anything on debut over 6f. She has an entry for the Moyglare Group 1 in Ireland and may have more to give over this 7f and a decent break. Meehan has fantastic statistics for his juveniles on their second start at relatively short odds. It is worth keeping an eye on the betting as a gamble would be a positive sign.

A quick mention for Cool Kitten as William Knight's juveniles can often improve a good deal on their second start.

The betting will be the best guide to most of the unraced. Middle Club and Sixpenny Moon have been given a stakes race entry which is a positive.

An interesting contest and Mistic Magic has potential to do much better today as long as she handles this extra two furlongs and ground.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A couple of fair sorts in Mistic Magic and Secret Queen who both stepped up in distance from 5f - 7f and benefited greatly. Cole's winner ran a very good race, always travelling well and managed to grind out a win over Meehan's second who cruised along and really looked to an outstanding chance of winning. These two fillies can go on from this and will be competing at a higher higher grade. Middle Club was well backed and can progress.'

2:15 Lingfield (22nd June)

An interesting fillies' maiden over 5f.

Mrs Boss is the form pick but this drop back to 5f on a turning track may cause problems over the first couple of furlongs as she takes a while to get motoring. Perhaps she has gained enough experience to negate this factor although I would be careful that she isn't run off her feet. Probably best to bet in-running as I would be very surprised if she can go the early pace and will be bigger odds in the race. A chance as long as she remains handy.

Guesswork has been given two listed race entries along the way and I get the feeling Jarvis likes this filly but the most offputting aspect is that she looks very weak and not at all attractive. She showed good speed over 6f last time but that race wasn't cranked up until late on so she may have been made to look faster than she is.

Tom Dascombe can win on debut and Brambleberry is an interesting running on the all-weather, a course that the trainer has found a few winners this season.

Mind The Monarch ran well at Sandown, a race that is working out very well. Her last effort at Folkestone was a huge disappointment and she needs to have a good reason for that dismay display.

At very big odds Princess Shamal has more hope than she looks. After being beaten one-hundred lengths on debut she showed speed at Yarmouth and looked to have a fighting chance but tired markedly in the final furlong. This drop back to 5f may take the edge off that acceleration but she has a better chance than many consider and drawn low on this turning track, she may take have a chance.

An intriguing race where the favourite may be outpaced and the outsider my be the pace angle.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Another debut win for Tom Dascombe with Brambleberry tasting victory here. Virginia Hall ran much better today after showing speed at Warwick before tiring rapidly. A very big filly, she would probably be suited by further. Mrs Boss wasn't able to keep tabs on the leaders and was running-on all too late. Millman was clearly disappointed with this effort but Mrs Boss is certainly capable of winning a race and is a fair sort.'

4:00 Wolverhampton (22nd June)

A maiden for colts and fillies over the extended 5f (216y).

This has the look of a weak maiden.

Suffolk Punch ran well on debut in quite a competitive stakes race. A slow starter, he ran on in pleasing fashion and should progress with racing. It is usually a good sign to see one of Balding's juveniles contesting a stake race on debut and it wouldn't be a surprise to see much improvement. The basic form of this Barathea colt is nothing special - but more can be expected today and a win should come his way.

Captain's Paradise cost 115,000gns and likely to have his supporters. The negative is that Sir Mark Prescott has a pretty poor win rate on debut and more likely to be placed and progress with racing.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A poor contest. Suffolk Punch was very well backed but didn't improve on his first run at Chepstow and always struggling to go the pace. Clearly a step up to 7f is needed although you would have liked to have seen some pace at the finish. A horse to be careful with at short odds. Dixie Bright won this well enough and keeps up the good form for Givens. Listillo had the run of the race and had all of these on the back foot and looked the likely winner for most. This colt doesn't have the most fluent of actions and didn't finish the race. The well-backed Dolphin Rock made the frame to please supporters. I would be very careful backing these on their next start as this looked a poor race.'

7:10 Windsor (22nd June)

A restricted auction race for colts and fillies over 6f where a high draw is an advantage.

This looks a very good chance for Palisades Park to gain his first win after two fair performances. The only problem is being drawn in stall one, which doesn't do any favours to this colt by Compton Place. Hughes will no doubt try to make this juveniles experience count and get as close to the rail as possible. A big chance even with the draw being a negative.

Of the rest, Fire And Stone may be capable of better as quite a short price on debut but never really going. Gooseberry Bush is on a handy weight and quite an attractive. He ran in a decent juvenile race at Sandown.

This looks a good chance for Palisades Park, although not the most appealing bet with the low draw.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A nice confidence booster for Palisades Park who freewheeled from a low draw to the rail with minimal fuss and ran out an easy winner. Many A Slip put a disappointing effort at Salisbury behind him and finished with a flourish. It is difficult to appreciate the form at this moment as the winner won in good style but this colt isn't without hope. Fire And Stone continues the purple patch for Dascombe to take third. Of the others, Gooseberry Bush is a lovely-looking sort and showed good speed before tiring. Probably more of a nursery horse, as Makin does well in that race type.'

2:10 Pontefract (21st June)

A fillies' maiden over 6f.

Not too many form horses and Caviar heads the market after her third at Doncaster. The easy winner of that race run well at Royal Ascot, however, Fahey's juvenile looked a different class that day. Caviar doesn't set the greatest level of form but may improve for that race as she wasn't give a hard time on debut. Hannon's juveniles can progress with racing but needs to find more.

Dance For Julie looks to hold Pure Nostalgia and Wood Fair on their Redcar form. This Haslam-trained juvenile was slow away and progressed well throughout the race to run with credit. That race was quite restricted although it does seem to be holding up. The slight concern may be that she becomes outpaced again as trying to run through a field of horses on this turning track will make life difficult. You have to also consider that this may be a step up in class and one of the newcomers may have ability. Certainly one of the most fancied of those with form. It is interesting to note that Wood Fair was well backed last time when running here and it is possible Burke's two-year-old could get closer to Dance For Julie. The downside is that she didn't take the turns very well here last time and looked rather lumbering.

Although the unraced may lack in experience, which certainly doesn't help on a turning track, they may have the class to take this race. The betting will be the best guide to many of the more fashionable stables and there seems to be money for Chapple-Hyam's Sakile. It is interesting to note that in the five-day declarations Monroe was actually booked to ride Sakile but is now aboard Jean Jeannie for Haggis. This could be a pointer to the latter of this pair although Monroe has not ridden many juveniles for Haggis in recent years it would suggest he had the choice.

An interesting event where the form horses oppose the potential talent of the unraced. Of the form horses Dance For Julie may have the edge on form but Jean Jeannie is an interesting debutant. Not the easiest of races to assess as the form may be average and the inexperience of the unraced makes this all the more difficult.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A decent prospect in Johnston's winner, Hafawa who overcome a wide draw and a tardy start. A sizable filly, she could well be above average. Haslam's Dance For Julie improved on her debut effort and didn't do much wrong except bump into a talented juvenile. She will be winning soon. City Vaults Girl ran her race in third and I wouldn't expect too much improvement as she was given quite a challenging race in ways. Knockenduff is capable of better and was always running wide. Culhane gave her a considerate ride and has the potential to win. Sakile was leading until the last half furlong but tired quickly thereafter. She may have slightly needed the run, but more probably run her race.'

2:20 Recar (20th June)

A maiden over 7f for colts and fillies.

This looks out of four.

Music Of the Moor had a stiff task on debut, competing in a stakes race. This colt by Rock Of Gibralter isn't the biggest of two-year-olds and from a poor start at Pontefract was always chasing the field. The form of the front two looks strong but the rest haven't attained much since. The positive is that this juvenile ran on well at the finish suggesting this step up to 7f will suit.

Saeed Bin Suroor hasn't achieved much with the few juveniles he has run so far. Most have needed their first run, more to do with inexperience than fitness, and Lamh Albasser was very immature to the point where he was allowed to just gallop home without being tested. A good-looking gelding and fancied in the betting that day, a much better performance should be expected today.

Of the others, Leopard Hills had it all to do in a stakes race at Newcastle. This gelding was run off his feet early but made good headway in the final furlong and should appreciate this 7f. That race was not the highest of grades and the leaders went off very fast that day, which may have flattered this juveniles running-on 4th. Not the most impressive of two-year-olds, he is lightly built and weak.

Mark Johnston's Pytheas seems very well fancied on the exchanges and this is certainly a positive for this runner. It is no easy task winning on debut but Johnston can certainly win on debut.

The betting suggests this is a four-horse race and a competitive one at that. Not the kind of race I would be tempted to bet. Saeed Bin Surror's juvenile is an attractive sort will put Tate and Howard Johnson's juveniles in the shade.

A watching race.

Race review:'From a four-horse race it turned into two with a battle between Lamh Albasser and the debutant, and second, Pytheas. Johnston's runner looked to have this won as Lamh Albasser was still inexperienced and took a long time to run on. A big horse with scope to progress, he led on the line. Tuckitinyasok ran well for Roger Fisher to get third. Music Of The Moor and Leopard Hills were always on the back foot and didn't progress.'

7:05 Haydock (20th June)

An intriguing auction race for colts and fillies over 5f.

A number of these have shown an element of ability and then indifferent form, which adds confusion to the mix.

Gower Sophia has run a couple of decent races but looked to be regressing with her last performance at Redcar. Brittain's filly is very small and on the weak side, too. I couldn't back her after that last disappointing effort.

Mal And Dave is a big, strong colt and will probably be the best looker in here. He showed an element of ability on each run but things hadn't gone his way and reason why he slipped into a claiming race unnoticed and would have been a very good win without the surprise package of Midget winning the day. Nicholls' two-year-old will probably run a big race and has the speed to have most of these struggling early. This race should be better than a claimer and it is still slightly difficult to know what he has achieved.

Goodbye Earl is a funny-looking horse - big and lumbering, which doesn't really inspire confidence. His second to Strike Shot doesn't read well, as Muir's winner that day has proven limited on his next start. I would be surprised if Goodbye Earl won this as he looks the kind of horse who will find one too good.

Of the form horses I would side with Pepper Lane. She has run a couple of decent races and out of these looks the most consistent. The run behind Capercaillie makes her look much worse that she is because that was a very good race.

Of the unarced Schoolboy Champ is an interesting runner having been entered to run in the Brocklesby (many moons ago) and another stakes race. At big odds this colt by Trade Fair may be worth a few quid each way.

An interesting race where a few have something to prove.

Bet: 1PT EW PEPPER LANE (AVIALABLE AT 4/1) (7th)

Gower Sophia (NR)
Nabrina (NR)

Race Review: 'Two non runners changed the complexion of this race. Schoolboy Champ ran well on debut and won with a bit of style. A decent-looking colt the encouraging signs of stakes races indicated some hope and he could go on. Mal And Dave showed his normal speed but isn't the greatest juvenile and probably needs to be dropped in class. Gentle Beat showed more this time. Pepper Lane has clearly regressed and ran a very disappointing race as did Goodbye Earl. A very disappointing tip.'

7:20 Lingfield (20th June)

A restricted auction race for colts and fillies over 7f.

Toga Tiger has been knocking on the door but slammed it firmly in his supporters' face last time on soft ground. To be fair it may have been the ground rather than his resolution as the track may have had a bias as Danzoe has come out since and won well. I wouldn't give up on Togar Tiger but today is the last chance.

Tom Dascombe continues to do well with his juveniles and Coloursoftheglen ran well on debut and must go well here. The apprentice was on board on this colt's first start and it is a positive to see Kingscote take charge today.

With the majority of the unraced being very cheap purchases and inexperience to contend, I would look to one of the above mentioned to win this, with Coloursoftheglen being the safer bet of the pair.

A watching race.

Race review: 'This came down to a battle of the favourites and Toga Tiger prevailed from Coloursoftheglen.'

6:30 Newmarket (19th June)

A maiden for colts and one filly over 6f on good ground.

Not too much form to go on and many of the unraced don't appeal. Opus Dei ran in a strange race at Newcastle, finishing third. It is difficult to know whether there was a track bias that day as those running down the centre of the course, of which McCabe's runner was one, seemed to have a healthy advantage over those on the far side rail. It is difficult to know what this colt by Oasis Dream achieved. A big price on debut and a strangely-run race, I would be careful with this juvenile.

Excellent Guest is a big, strong colt and certainly has scope to improve from his debut at Yarmouth. The form of that race isn't particularly strong and Margarson's juvenile needs to progress to take a race like this. It is encouraging that his capable trainer went for a stakes race on debut and it has been noted that connections are keen on this one. No doubt a better run will be seen today and he could go well.

Brian Meehan is a very talented trainer and all of his juveniles should be given a good review on their second start as he has tremendous statistics. This colt cost 80,000eur and was slowly away on debut, showing up well for a time, before fading in the final furlong. Meehan's juveniles can improve amazingly for their first run and at big odds it may be worth anticipating a gamble. Money would be a very good sign. An interesting horse.

Of the rest, Black Snowflake cost 370,000usd. Saeed Bin Suroor's juveniles don't fill me with confidence on their debut and often improve a good deal for the experience. It is a lottery whether they run a race and reason why I wouldn't be interested today.

Cape D'Or cost 100,00gns and a recent purchase at the breeze-up sales. It is noticeable that Hannon has his more expensive types ready to run big races on debut this year and this one could well be primed for debut. The betting will detail its chances.

Quite an open race. Public Service is of interest if backed and Excellent Guest must have place chances.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A race full of drama with Black Snowflake causing problems hampering many by hanging left in the closing stages. Extreme Warrior, the easy winner, was free to cruise up the outside and was more fortunate than Cape D'Or who was stopped point blank and had no chance thereafter. Opus Dei disappointed and there was no money for Meehan's Public Service who didn't attain much either. A messy race.'

7:25 Goodwood (19th June)

A restricted auction maiden for fillies over 6f.

A poor-looking race. Folleta will probably have her supporters here as she sets the level although is not the easiest of characters. The application of cheek pieces may well fire this compact filly to actually race for the first furlong or two as she has been comprehensively outpaced on both starts before running on in encouraging fashion.

Goodwood Diva is interesting for John Dunlop as the connections had a first-time-out winner here recently. Dunlop's juveniles have been in fine form and the betting should indicate this fillies chances.

I am interested to see how Folleta goes with the cheek pieces although I wouldn't be tempted to bet myself. If she follows her normal running style it may be best to bet in-running and pray she flies home.

A modest race.

A watching race.

Race review: 'This didn't look the best of race and probably a weak auction event. Cultured Pride beat She's Ok in a battle to the line. Neither had shown any ability on debut and you have to wonder what many of these achieved. Lady Darshaan was very well backed (20/1 - 6/1) and ran on for third. Moore has a poor win rate on debut and this filly may improve with racing. Folleta was very weak in the betting and the cheek pieces indicated that she was temperamental. Always slow from the stalls, it was never going to be easy and Hannon's seemingly first string ran hopelessly and is one to be avoided.'

Wednesday, 17 June 2009

2:10 Ripon (18th June)

A maiden for colts and fillies over 6f.

A number of form horses competing here where many have something to prove after disappointing efforts on their last starts.

Saucy Girl ran a very encouraging race on debut here and then went off a leading fancy at Musselburgh to be beaten by two talented juveniles in Dispol Keasha and Ventura Cove. Many would have considered this to be a disappointing effort because that is what it looked at the time. However, Saucy Girl, the only filly in the race, may have run her race that day. On the plus side, this better ground will suit. A difficult juvenile to assess.

Il Forno is a strong-looking horse and he showed good speed after being slowly away at Haydock. The form of that race has given mixed signals and I would be cautious about the form.

Another to have disappointed last time was Danzoe. He seemingly ran a great race at Leicester and then trailed home a long way behind at Newcastle. I wander if there was a track bias that day as those over the far side rail seemed to be struggling compared to those running down the middle. Perhaps at decent odds it may be worth giving Donovan's juvenile another chance although I would be tempted to watch today.

Crushing was well backed on debut at Ripon and ran a fair race but more is needed. This step up to 6f may help.

Stan Moore's Great Intrigue is an interesting runner here because the race he contested at Newbury could well turn out to be very good. A breeze-up purchase for 50,000gns, this bay colt could well run a fair race at a price.

Mark Johnston's First Instance should be respected although it is never easy to win on debut.

Of the rest, My One Weakness was entered to run in the Brian Yeardly stakes race while Sam Jicaro has been entered to run in a selling/claiming race.

This looks a very confusing race and care should be taken betting here. I would want a price just to start.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Danzoe ran a much better race today after seeming to fail on the softer ground at Newcastle. The time here suggests that the ground is on the soft side so I still wonder if his poor running was to do with the draw bias that day. Time will tell, but I would keep an eye on those who looked disappointing at Newcastle that day as they may be better than they look. Not much else got into this: Crushing plugged on for second and My One Weakness rallied for third. Il Forno showed speed but looks weak and Saucy Girl has regressed to the extreme. An easy winner of a poor race.'

2:30 Ascot (18th June)

The Norolk Stakes Group 2 consisting entirely of colts.

Richard Hannon has been hitting the heights at Royal Ascot, especially with the impressive Canford Cliffs. Monsieur Chevalier has shown class in all his performances and there seems little reason why another great run will not be on the cards. This two-year-old always finishes his races and this is a strength in these high-class races.

Kevin Ryan hasn't had much luck with his juveniles this year - most have been very out of form. Here Now And Why is a lovely colt with a superb attitude. He hasn't really been tested on his last two wins and even on debut, against Archers Road, there was much to like about this juvenile. I can see Ryan's two-year-old running a consistent race but he needs to improve on what we have seen so far.

The way Wesley Ward has captured the imagination of Royal Ascot - as a hunting ground for USA - Yogaroo could display another sparkling performance. It is difficult to assess this juveniles form, but few would say he can't win.

More of a watching race that betting for me. Monsieur Chevalier has a chance to make it five wins from five. I will be cheering on Hannon's juvenile and Here Now And Why as Kevin Ryan deserves a change of luck.

A watching race.

Race review: 'An eventful race with Yogaroo hampering many horses as he tired in the final two furlongs. On reviewing this race it is clear that the leaders went much too fast and set this up for those waiting off the pace. Jamie Spencer gave Radiohead an excellent ride and would have won by a wide margin if he hadn't been badly hampered. Reignier ran a great race for Karl Burke and deserves credit as does Tawaabb. Monssieur Chevalier was hampered by Yogaroo, which clearly stopped Hannon's impressive colt from showing more here. I don't think he would have got close to Radiohead and along with many of those who led, went a shade to fast and was struggling to last home. This juvenile would have been much better suited by sitting off the pace.'

2:55 Warwick (18th June)

A restricted auction maiden for colts and fillies over 5f.

Admin has a great chance of making the winning enclosure today. Having run a fair race on debut he pulled much too hard last time Haydock and simply didn't get the distance. This lovely-looking colt will take all the beating.

Look Whos Next was quite fancied on debut at Haydock but never got into that race. A small, inexperience juvenile, he could well improve, but needs to as the form of that race doesn't look quite good enough. McMahon is a very good trainer and it may be the case that he disappointed that day although more is needed.

Admin get the thumbs up for this.

A watching race.

Race review: 'This didn't look a very competitive heat and Admin was all the rage - but disappointed. To be fair, I think Beckett's two-year-old race his race but similar to Goodwood, he struggled to last the five furlongs and Orpen Grey sauntered by without too much trouble. Look Whos Next is very small and didn't appeal in the slightest. I wouldn't back Admin after this performance - a horse to be taken on because he is prone to being chased down late on.'

2:20 Hamilton (17th June)

A maiden race over 6f with a testing uphill finish.

Mark Johnston is a difficult trainer to assess with his two-year-olds on debut as they can go from one extreme to the other and reason why the bookies often under price his juveniles. The plus side is that the trainer has 35% win rate with his juveniles in recent years.

Karl Burke has been winning countless races this season, especially second time out, and Paradise Spectre was give a very tall order on debut against talented opposition. That was a very good run for a debut and improvement is very likely.

Mark Tompkins rarely wins on debut and his juveniles can make giant strides from one race to the next. Amno Dancer ran a fair race on debut. If this colt is relatively short in the betting (13/2 & less) a big run can be expected.

Fahey is firing in the two-year-old winners and he has a liking for Hamilton.Money talks volumes for the stable and if they fancy their chances then so should you.

The betting will tell the fate of many of these and that should be noted before getting stuck in to any selection. Paradise Spectre is an interesting juvenile and a big run should be expected.

A watching race.

Race review: 'This turned out to be a battle between the three most fancied runners and Mark Johnston's Awzaan won the day. Paradise Sceptre was well backed and had every chance only losing out in the last 100m. Tislaam, who ran no race on debut, put up a much improved performance this time. Difficult to know what these achieved as form lines are pretty sparse.'

Sassanian (NR)
Charity Fair (NR)

4:55 Royal Ascot (17th June)

The Queen Mary Stakes race, a Group 3 contest for fillies.

This has the look of a competitive race and with many winners on show it is difficult to consider what they can attain.

If I chose one horse it would be Capercaillie. This filly has proven very good on two starts and going the right way. She has a determination to win and I have little doubt a big run is on the cards. The Musselburgh form is working out well with the third horse Makbullet running a storming race next time out after looking snail's pace against this filly. Never an easy race to find a winner - but I get a feeling this Johnston two-year-old has class.

Don't Tell Mary won the Hilary Needler Listed race at Beverley in tremendous style. The best feature of her running style is that a big rallying finish looks guaranteed. In races of this nature the majority of horses go much too quick and fall short in the final furlong. Dascombe's filly will be winding-up for a her effort just as many are toiling and you couldn't help but be impressed last time.

Rose Blossom is another with a glowing reference - an all-age track record at Hamilton running under 58 seconds is something quite astounding. That wasn't the best of races - but it wasn't really about the opposition. She could well lead these a merry dance if that time was a reflection of natural speed.

Lady Of The Desert won well at Leicester on debut, which is always a very encouraging sign for Brian Meehan. A good, strong filly with plenty of scope for improvement, she could be a class act and I would fear this juvenile.

This is the best season Clive Brittain has had with his two-year-olds for as long as I can remember and Misheer has proven her worth by winning with ease at Yarmouth and then showing battling qualities to take a Listed race at York. Brittain stated that the ground wasn't to her liking that day and another big run can be expected.

A tight affair, which is hardly surprising when there is £51,000 up for grabs. With so many of these untested it is a difficult task to be confident. If I went for one it would be Capercaillie as I just get a feeling she has something about her.

An exciting race to savour.

A watching race.

Race review: 'A breathtaking performance by Jealous Again. Wesley Ward caught the imagination with his Listed winner but this victory was something special. Away from the stall like a greyhound, and a substantial lead after two furlong, this impressive filly was pushed clear to leave what looked a field of talented juveniles toiling. A truly great performance. Misheer done Clive Brittain proud and Ceedwell, Capercaillie & Chantilly Creme ran well. Much credit to Ward for bringing these juveniles to Royal Ascot.'
