2:00 Leicester (1st June)
Jira is an expensive filly and ran quite encouragingly on debut and will appreciate this step up to nearly 6f. Clive Brittain has had an amazing season with his juveniles and being on the crest of a wave, and Seb Sanders in the plate, you would be a brave person to say he couldn't win.
Warning Song flew home at Salisbury and could be a revelation at this distance (5f218y). Perrett has a good win rate at relatively short odd on second start and could improve a good deal. That was a fair effort on debut and this colt must be given a big shout.
Party Doctor comes from top two-year-old trainer, Tom Dascombe. Not a particularly expensive juvenile the market will be the best guide to his chances.
Of the rest, Capacity and Rock A Doodle Doo have been entered for stakes races, which is an encouraging sign.
At speculative odds First Cat may be a decent bet to lay as this colt was well backed on debut before getting loose and being withdrawn. These betting patterns have the knack of materialising once more and a on the exchanges a no-lose bet may be possible. (Always to be treated with caution, but I get the feeling it will be backed.)
An open race with a couple of interesting for horse and the stakes-entered pair are worth noting.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Jira took a drift in the market ran won from the fast finishing Party Doctor by a head. Brittain's juvenile continue to impress and this filly always travelled well just off the pace and looked to be an easy winner until Dascombe's second ran on well and was making great strides at the line. A strong colt, he will progress and a win looks a formality. Warning Song travelled well but didn't really finish to any effect. You have to consider that Perrett's juvenile was beaten by two better horses.'

2:15 Carlisle (1st June)
This doesn't look a very competitive race and reason why Yeadon is odds-on. This attractive colt by Fraam showed good speed on debut at Ripon, running on the far side, and chasing Kylladdie until tiring in the final furlong. Fahey is a master with two-year-olds and you have to consider the drop to this minimum distance is what is needed and even though the debut run wasn't a sparkling performance it is probably plenty good enough to win here.
Bow Beaver is one of few that appeal, especially as a 35,000gns purchase at a breeze-up sales, so should be fit and ready. Howard Johnson has been doing well with his juveniles this season and he is a trainer capable of bringing out a big gun or two. Obviously in a restricted race this is less likely and he doesn't have the greatest win rate on debut.
Silver In The Sand was a very short price for one of Bethell's juveniles on debut. The form of that race doesn't look anything special and improvement is needed. The market will be interesting for this runner and if backed again it may indicate that better was expected first time out.
Not a very competitive race and Yeadon will be a short price to win. Not the type of race I would want to bet myself.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Bow Beaver was all the rage in the betting which suggested this was a two-horse race. Howard Johnson's juvenile looking to be a comprehensive winner at one point, but Yeadon fought back towards to line and just failed to get back on terms. The only other horse to put down a effort was Mercers Row who was very well backed from big odds. For much of the way the Dickman juvenile held a handy position, but tired quickly in the final furlong to finish a distant fourth.'

6:25 Windsor (1st June)
Nadeen and Footstepsofspring are probably the choice picks on form and the former trained by Mick Channon ran very well on debut to beat Little Perisher, who has gone on to prove a talented juvenile. Footstepsofspring is a good-looking colt and ran markedly better on his second start.
Antonius Moris done well to win on debut but that wasn't the best of races and stepping back a furlong may be a plus or minus. It is no easy task to win first time out so it isn't beyond the realms this colt could run well but has something to prove in ways.
This looks to be a three-horse race and Nadeen has the potential to be a decent colt but have to give weight away in the process.
A watching race.
Race review: 'A shock 50/1 winner in Navajo Chief for Alan Jarvis. It may be the case that Jarvis' runner had been training with Little Perisher who just lost out to Nadeen when Channon colt won on debut. There was little between the first three and all had a fighting chance. Antonius Moris was slightly short of room in the final furlong and may have done a touch better.'

2:10 Bath (31st May)
Flyinflyout is probably the best form on offer although she doesn't attain the highest of standards and her last effort was pretty limited. I would imagine one of the unraced juveniles will win this.
Nina Rose is an interesting two-year-old as Cox has a very good record at this course and has a few decent juveniles in his yard this season.
Secret Queen must be respected as Brian Meehan is certainly capable of winning on debut although generally better for the run. The market will tell her chances here.
An open race in which the form horses make limited appeal and this may go to an debutant.
A watching race.
Race review: 'With Flyinflyout being favourite for this contest it spoke volumes - mainly that the debutantes had limited ability. Meehan's Secret Rose never looked competitive and it was left to Nina Rose. Cox's filly tried to get on terms in the final furlong but couldn't prevail. This was a modest race.'

3:35 Haydock (30th May)
The form horses haven't achieved a great deal. Goodbye Earl has run in a couple of decent races but looks a big, lumbering two-year-old and he may be too easily outpaced and then struggle to get back on terms.
Look Whos Next is an interesting juvenile for Ed McMahon. He has a decent place rate for his juveniles on debut and is worthy of consideration. More of a watching horse for me today.
Take Ten cost 210,000 guineas and must be respected from this owner. Johnston has been sending out a few better sorts of late and this colt by Bahamian Bounty wouldn't need to be that classy to figure here.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This race looked to have some depth with the McMahon and Johnston unraced juveniles but neither figured and this came down to a two-horse race with Strike Shot beating Goodbye Earl by a neck. Muir's winner was very well backed and was a short price on debut when doing little. Berry's still looks rather lumbering but was never outpaced and was their team may be regretting that she didn't win today as this may be a poor contest, but time will tell.'

4:20 York (30th May)
Falling Angel showed good speed at Goodwood to finish second on debut. In some ways that looks a decent performance but that race may have been on the weak side as Flyinflyout was beaten quite easily in a poor auction race in the last week. Cole's filly has the chance to improve and may do so, however, there could well be a decent horse in this race, which would make her task difficult if that debut run is as good as she is. Also, the booking of Kingscote may be a negative.
Jeanie Johnston ran in desperate conditions at Haydock. To be fair, that looked a pretty poor race. Lane (jockey) retains the ride and he has a decent win rate with Burke although has only partnered a small number of two-year-olds. The most interesting pointer for this juvenile is that Burke has very good statistics second time out. Difficult to assess beyond that point though.
This may go to an unraced juvenile as both Johnston and Saeed Bin Suroor (Babylonian and Sweet Sonnet) have good records at York and often the appearance of a talented two-year-old.
Not the easiest of races to appreciate and the betting will give a good guide to most of these. The form horses have something to prove but they do have the advantage of experience which is certainly a plus.
A watching race.
Race review: 'A crazy race with a winner that never looked possible. Sweet Sonnet was slow into stride and never looked to be going when this filly finally ran on to catch Falling Angel on the line. This didn't appear to be the strangest of contest by York's standards although the winner could well improve from this.'

7:35 Lingfield (30th May)
Ragsta ran out an easy second to Brian Meehan's talented Radiohead. This was a very weak race, bar the winner, and it is difficult to imagine what Hannon's juvenile achieved that day. It is slightly concerning that Richard Smith has been booked, as he is often someway down the pecking order for rides, however on a busy day of racing this may not be as much a negative as it could be. However, it would be wise to see how Brunette, the stable's over runner, fares in the betting.
Curtains is a difficult filly to assess after her last run. She ran what looked to be a very encouraging race on debut, however, it may be the case that Dow's two-year-old was flattered that day by running off the pace. Perhaps the ground at Bath was on the fast side and these conditions will be more suitable. Basically, she needs an excuse for a disappointing effort last time.
Astarta was relatively short priced when taking part in a stakes race on debut over 5f. She will probably improve for this step up in distance although she isn't the most attractive of fillies and will need to improve.
It is encouraging to see Jamie Spencer taking the ride on Arabian Jewel as he has very good statistics with Simcock's juveniles. This filly doesn't have the best of draws and inexperience will be costly if she is none too quick away. Money for this runner would give additional hope.
A very open race where many have something to prove.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Probably not the strongest of fillies' races but a few nice-looking types. Hairspray certainly improved from her debut and although drifting in the betting she held on well from the late charge of Curtains who rallied well, after pulling, and perhaps a shade unlucky. Crystal Gale ran well on debut and kept up the good record for Knight at this track.'

2:10 Hamilton (29th May)
Bronze Beau has speed to burn but seems to be regressing. The form of his earlier races has taken a few knocks and it may pay to look elsewhere. He will probably try and gain an easy lead but he has his work cut out today.
Lewyn certainly ran a much better race on her second start and is quite a robust filly. It is difficult to know what that form amounts to but she must have a chance in what looks to be an average maiden.
Tagula Pearl will appreciate this drop in grade after taking on some big guns at York last time. This filly has been progressing with racing and she is quite a good-looking juvenile for this grade. I can imagine McInnes will be doing his best today.
Lord's Seat is a big colt and has progressed with each race and has an element of ability.
Rose Blossom may be the one to note. She is a recent breeze-up purchase and held an entry for the Hilary Needler listed race at Beverley. Fahey does well with his juveniles and features a good win and place rate on debut.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This turned out to be a one-horse race and Rose Blossom won with ease and now goes to the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. Bronze Beau and Lewyn set off with great gusto, but the writing was on the wall as Fahey's filly always coasted along and soon ran away. The former have an element of ability but both struggled to finish here and they need a weak race to prevail. Dazeen finished clear second but may be flattered. Midgley's juvenile wasn't so much outpaced as held up in rear and ran on through beaten horses. It may have been a fair performance but I would be careful.'

6:50 Musselburgh (29th May)
Pepper Lane ran a creditable race on debut, narrowly losing out in a three-way photo at Ripon. Her task today is not going to get any easier as this looks to be a step up in class. However, she sets the mark for the others to attain.
Whelkeen Rock is a difficult colt to assess after travelling very well at Haydock on terrible ground at 6f he completely tailed off in the final furlong almost stopping to a walk. He may be a different proposition this time on better ground and on a quicker 5f. The booking of Joe Fanning maybe a slight negative. Certainly be interesting to see how this juvenile fares today.
Once again, this is the time of year when Brian Smart starts to bring out a few better juveniles and the betting should indicate the likelihood of this ones chances.
Capercaillie is the interesting two-year-old in this field. Costing $375,000, this filly has already been entered to run in two listed and a stakes race and I would be surprised if she hasn't got ability. Perhaps her only downfall may be running over 5f and inexperience, but I can see this Johnston two-year-old taking some beating.
A watching race.
Race review: 'A good race with two talented juveniles leading the way. Capercaillie looked to be travelling well from the start and had things her own way until Exgray ran on like a train and made it a close call. These two made Pepper Lane look very slow and she isn't without a touch of ability (perhaps enough to win an auction race). Makbullet ran well to get third and could have a fair chance at a lower level.'

Admin will be trying hard to get off the mark today. This attractive, deep-chested colt ran well on debut at Goodwood 5f, looking to have a favourites chance at one stage, before tiring in the last half furlong. I would expect much improvement since that run and he will not be so easy to beat this time.
Of the others, Green For Luck is worth noting as Tom Tate has detailed that he has one of the best strings of two-year-olds for many years, and those that have run illustrate this point. In addition, this is the time of year when Mark Johnston brings out a few better juveniles and Shakespearean is worthy of note.
Victoire De Lyphar wasn't originally a booked ride for Jamie Spencer at five-day declaration (he was booked to ride State Fair for Cole), so this may not be as positive as it seems.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Mark Johnston unveiled another prospect in the giant form of Shakespearean, a sizable colt who may have been weak in the market but powered to the line for an easy win. Admin looked to be running a big race, but pulled early and a return to 5f is probably needed to see him in a better light. A lovely-looking type I would be surprised if he hasn't got enough ability to win a race. He could be a decent bet next time out after looking disappointing here. I don't think the place horses are that great, but time will tell.'

2:10 Yarmouth (28th May)
Niran ran well on debut beating Shark Man in a driving finish. Few juveniles have the class or experience to win a stakes race on their first start and credit must be given for such an effort. On the negative side, I cannot see this colt progressing a huge amount as he was giving quite a determined ride and although Shark Man is a capable horse, if this turned out to be a decent stakes event Brittain's two-year-old may have to dig deep.
It is difficult to know what to think about King Of Axum. He ran on like a train on debut and won a race that has proven to be very good. His run at York was a disaster waiting to happen as he was completely run off his feet and never looked happy being pushed along. This 6f will be a much more suitable distance and he has a chance to prove his worth.
Brisbane was a relatively short price on debut but beaten a long way and needs to improve. Gosden's two-year-olds haven't hit form this season and it would be best to watch his colt today.
The unraced have a tall order to win this. It is interesting to see Spencer booked to ride England and Excellent Guest is said to be a capable juvenile.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Niran done well to gain his second win and always looked to hold the edge over the others although a number put down a challenge. King Of Axum ran ok but seemed to be hanging and looked very awkward for most of the race. Brisbane rallied late but couldn't find enough.'

2:20 Ayr (28th May)
Maison Brillet ran with credit on debut at Musselburgh after being drawn wide and then being slow away. Racing on the outside of the field, he progressed throughout and put down a challenge in the final furlong but beaten by two capable juveniles. Howard Johnson has fair statistics for his two-year-olds on their second start and this step up to 6f may bring about improvement.
Trinder ran a strong race against Corporal Maddox, when second at Hamilton. This colt has a bit of size about him looks the type to battle when asked. The winner that day won with a touch in hand so it pays to be slightly careful when assessing its merits but this looks a capable juvenile.
Baileys Vision didn't do much wrong at Warwick, just losing out to more experienced opposition. I think the form of her first race sets an average level of ability but she is capable of improving for the run and Jonhston's juveniles are tough to beat.
Emeralds Spirit is an interesting juvenile for Weymes. She was quite fancied on debut and didn't have the clearest of passages which made her look a couple of lengths poorer. She was running on well at the line and this 6f will suit. It was noticeable that this filly has quite a knee bend and may well appreciate an ease in the ground today. In addition, it is interesting that she was entered to run in the Hilary Needler but takes this engagement instead.
A fairly competitive race with a few form horses taking their chance.
BET: 1PTEW EMERALDS SPIRIT (AVAILABLE FROM 8/1+) (9th)
Race review: 'Maison Brillet ran well beating the Johnston pair: Baileys Vision and Below Zero where few seemed to get into the race. Baileys Vision had run a capable race on debut and this was probably a similar effort. The third Below Zero ran well on debut and could go on from this. Emeralds Spirit ran beyond comprehension and I can only apologise for such a disappointing effort. She had form to run a big race but the way she drifted on Betfair, late on, was alarming.'

6:35 Sandown (28th May)
Monsieur Chevalier is making a reputation with three wins. A colt with size and scope he is progressing his way towards Royal Ascot, but each time it is getting a little harder with classier opposition. Hannon's two-year-old will be all the rage and will take some beating.
Of the others Raine's Cross made a pleasing debut win at Bath and the form of that race has been franked a few times. Clearly Winkworth's juvenile will have to be a talent to beat the favourite but it isn't beyond the realms that he is a classy sort.
High Spice is one of two fillies to compete and she will have her followers. A big, strong type she will not look out of place with the colts and could be capable of running a big race.
Of the rest, many are very capable, but they will do well to beat Hannon's.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Another step along a successful two-year-old career for Hannon's impressive colt, Monsieur Chevalier. His strength in finishing a race will see him well at Royal Ascot. Star Rover bounced back from a slightly deflated performance at Goodwood and ran extremely well. He is a similar level to Archers Road and both capable horses. Raine's Cross was outpaced by a field of speedy types and made impressive headway all too late. This colt will certainly be seen to his best over 6f.'

Horse racing tips by sms
2:10 Brighton (27th May)
This looks a three-horse race on paper, with Lairy running in selling races on both start, needing to step up to win this.
Kalam Daleel ran an average race at Salisbury, which was a fair effort for his debut. Channon's juveniles can improve for the run and this colt may have lost a winning chance on his racecourse bow through inexperience. That race will see him well here.
Ginger Grey is quite an interesting runner and additionally interesting to see Jamie Spencer riding, as he has only two rides and was also booked to ride Soul Heaven at Lingfield but chose this mount, which certainly catches the eye. His colt has been given two stakes races entries (running in one of these stakes race on his debut). Callaghan is a good trainer and does well at Brighton. This juvenile was a relatively short price on at Newmarket and he was much too inexperienced to have any chance against more ready opposition. To be honest, he looked a big baby. Money for this runner would speak well.
Evergreen Dancer is an interesting runner but John Best doesn't have many juvenile winners on debut and it may pay to follow the experienced here.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This turned out to be a very one-sided affair and easy win for Kalam Daleel. Callaghna's juvenile didn't improve from its first run.'

3:00 Lingfield (27th May)
Experience counts for a lot on a turning track and the unraced have to prove they are better than their small price tags.
The majority of the form horses look limited, which isn't too surprising in this type of race. Any Day finished second in a poor race last time but that may be enough to run a fair race here. The third, Forget, was beaten on her next start at Warwick, which doesn't add to the form. Any Day is a much speedier juvenile though and should be handy for a good way but may struggle to finish.
Avec Moi has shown a glimmer of ability and this is probably her level. Drawn eleven is not a good starting point and a negative.
Soul Heaven will probably be all the rage here. This colt is a lovely-looking sort and he ran what seemed to be a great race on debut without being given a hard time - in fact hardly pushed when slightly hampered at the end. Bell's juvenile will look the part and clearly won't get a better chance that this to win. Reddy To Star boosted the form with a good run but Flapjack disappointed at Goodwood. I do like this horse and if he has any ability he will win this.
I'Malwaysright ran second to an easy winner at Lingfield but what that form amounts to is a matter of debate. Elsworth's juvenile can improve a good deal for their first run and may figure.
A low class race with a number of form horses trying to gain their first win. It wouldn't take much for an unraced colt or filly to win this although I would have to go with Soul Heaven as he looks the part and most likely to have attained the best form of these.

BET: 3:00 Lingfield Southwark Newshawk 25/1 0.5PT Each Way (8th)
Southwark Newshank has improved with each run and the form of its last race certainly looks to be solid. It is likely to improve with this step up in trip. From a low draw against weak and unrace opposition it may gain a favourable position early and could have the speed to hold it to the line.
Race review: 'Not a very competitve race and Bell's good-looking colt ran outa tidy winner. Balding's first timer, Cool Valentine, ran well and Any Day appreciated this level with a decent third place.'

7:20 Beverley (27th May)
Little Scotland ran a cracker at York and gave the impression this stiffer test would be no problem. She looks to hold Diamond Laura and Azif but can she prove as successful from such a low draw?
Don't Tell Mary won well on debut and that was a fair effort against Channon's juvenile, Toga Tiger. Clearly she needs to step up again to take a race of this nature, but she could do no more than win on her racecourse bow and with a high draw connections will be hoping for a big run. Dascombe has plenty of decent juveniles so must have a good idea of her ability.
Mark Johnston's The Hermitage ran well debut and won a poor race next start. She is rather small and lacking scope but it is interesting her trainer has gone for this race and she may be better than she looks. Once again the low draw may be a distinct disadvantage unless the going becomes softer and they race along the stands' rail.
As far as ability goes this doesn't look a race that too many can win. There will no doubt be a surprise or two with unexposed juveniles improving but the draw could be a killer blow for many. Unless the going turns soft I would have to go with a high draw and it will be interesting how bookmakers price this factor into this market. Diamond Laura may be a decent price because most people consider that Little Scotland has her beating but the difference in their respective draws may bring them closer together. I would need a speculative price to consider betting in such a competitive race although it could be a contest where that is a possibility.
A watching race.
Race review: 'A big field and an easy winner in Don't Tell Mary. This was a classy performance and the way she ran to the line must give her great hopes at royal Ascot which often turns into a burn-up where few horses last home. A few nippy horses here were found out in similar manner and high-class races leave few hiding places. The Hermitage ran a very good race showing good speed and Johnston's filly is much better than her form had looked. She is a touch nut considering she is so lightly built. Little Scotland had no luck in running and could have quite easily finished second. She is a talented juvenile and while connections will be disappointed today they will have good chances in the near future.'

2:00 Leicester (26th May)
Ailsa Carmel sets a decent mark for this field to aim. To finish third to experienced juveniles in a stakes race on debut is the sign of a fair two-year-old. I noticed that Channon had entered her in three stakes races before she has even raced, which must be an illustration of the regard he holds this filly by Antonius Pius. A relatively cheap purchase, it will take a good one to beat her.
Of the other form horses Fenella Rose is a lovely-looking filly. She ran well on debut and may have slightly tired in the final furlong as she came with a strong run but was soon put in her place by the easy winner. She wouldn't go in the stall when entered to race at Thirsk so she will need to be better behaved today.
The remaining two form horse have an element of ability but have their work cut out against Channon's Ailsa Carmel.
Of the unraced the Meehan pair, Lady Of The desert and Vanishing Grey, have superb breeding and must be respected. The betting will be the best guide to their chances and it should be noted that Meehan has a poor strike rate on debut. His juveniles have very good statistics on their second starts and should be noted even if they run poorly today.
Tomintoul Singer, for Henry Cecil, is a relatively cheap purchase and once again he doesn't have the greatest of win rates on debut.
Ailsa Carmel has a decent level of ability and her experience over this 5f with count for her. The form horses have shown a level of ability but need to improve.
A decent race.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This could turn out to be a quality contest with plenty of winners coming from this race. Brian Meehan bucked the trend of needing the run with a great performance from Lady Of The Desert. This well-bred filly wasn't best away but ran nicely through the field to win well. A two-year-old with scope and pedigree to be a star, connections certainly knew what they had on their hands being backed from double-figure odds on exchanges to return second favourite. It is additionally interesting this Meehan's juvenile won on debut, often the mark of talent for this yard. A quality filly who will make her mark. Tomintoul Singer was strong in the betting and looked to come with a winning run only to find a better filly on the scene. Cecil's two-year-old is an attractive, full-bodied sort and will definitely win races. La Fortunata reverse the placings with Fenella Rose by many lengths. Jenkins' juveniles often improve a good deal and this filly showed bags of speed up the rail and ran very well. It may be the case that Fenella Rose ran below standard as she was travelling well enough until the eventual winner brushed past her and from that point was hanging and tired quickly in the manner of a horse that struggled to get the distance or may have suffered an injury. She was certainly holding her head in a rather awkward manner in the final furlong. There was much to like about the way Vanishing Grey run. From a wide draw, and veering to her right on leaving the stalls, she was soon a long way adrift and made steady progress throughout the race and would have gone close if knowing her job. A filly to keep in mind and will no doubt run a big race on her second start. Aisla Carmel finished a poor-looking favourite and never seemed to be travelling that fluently. She may well have ran below standard but this could have been a reflection of a very good race and so she has a question mark after this disappointment. Angel Of Fashion was outpaced and then ran on in the final furlong. She has an element of ability but not the greatest of juveniles in my opinion. She may be better over 6f , however, she runs her race over 5f. She may scrape a win in an poor maiden. A race that will work out well. Lots of juveniles worth noting here.'

Flyinflyout ran a satisfactory debut but some way behind La Pantera at Goodwood. She was just ahead of Anjomarba of Bill Turners, which isn't the greatest of standard. Channon's juvenile often run their best race second time of asking and this filly may improve.
Victorian Art has shown an element of ability but in truth looks selling class. She too has form finishing behind Anjomarba on her last start in a decent event for auction level. Stepping up may help her chances.
True Loves Kiss is an interesting runner. She ran a fair race at Doncaster on debut after getting a very slow start but ran on encouragingly only to be slightly hampered in the final furlong. The fact that she was also entered to run in the Hilary Needler at Beverley brings about more enthusiasm, too.
Belle Eponine comes from a race where the form has been franked and ran on in the final furlong at catterick to suggest a step up to 6f would suit.
The unraced have it to prove with in experience and costing poultry sums. McMahon does well with his two-year-old and has good place statistics. It may be a negative that R. Mullen was originally booked to ride but goes elsewhere.
Hanagan was originally booked to ride Victorian Art but take the mount on Fahey's juvenile, Wigan Lane (of which he is stable jockey).
A race that shouldn't attain the greatest of standards.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This wasn't the best of races although the winner always had these at her mercy with a comfortable win. Gwynedd showed good pace from the start but the chasing pack was close on her hooves at the line. Dance For Julie ran with credit after suffering a slow start and done well to get her third placing. Loves True Kiss was once again outpaced even stepping up this extra furlong. She was green and hung when making a late challenge which may have denied her second. Perhaps a step up to 7f would suit, or at least a stiff 6f. This experience will benefit her. This was a poor race and probably no better than a seller, such was its restrictive nature.'

Avonvalley has progressed with racing and her last effort was a strong performance for this level and she is likely to run a big race once again.
It would come as no surprise to hear that Beckett rates this two-year-old. A big, deep-chested colt, he made what looked to be a winning challenge at Goodwood before tiring in the last half furlong and not given a hard race. This colt looks the part and will make a race of this.
Of the others, Bond Together has shown an element of ability, Safari Special ran on well in a race where the form has been franked on a couple of occasions and could improve and Saxby is a recent breeze-up purchase, although he will have be something good to win this on debut.
A competitive race for auction level and the winner will be a fair sort.

Race review: 'It was disappointing to see a couple of non runners, especially Admin, leaving this a much weaker race. Avonvalley travelled with ease and won quite well from the debutant, Silver Grey, who ran on well towards the finish after being outpaced for much of the way, but was never going to worry this heavily-backed favourite. This second may have run a good race but may have been flattered by running in a different race.'

Gower Sophia is not the biggest or the most talented of fillies but she has a good, battling attitude and should have a say in this restricted auction maiden. She has shown speed at Ripon but her other two starts featured a strong finish and this quick 5f dash may not be so much against her but a stiffer step would probably be better. A decent type for this kind of race.
Social Grace finished second in a poor-looking race at Newmarket in which Johnston's The Hermitage won with ease. It is difficult to know what this filly achieved.
Oondiri has shown an element of ability and fair speed last time before tiring in the last furlong. She will run a race but may have to settle for a place.
Regardless may be of interest at a big price. After a terribly slow start she ran wide for most of the race and ran on quite well to the line. Rees (trainer) is no fool and they have been lucky enough to train a few fair two-year-olds. This filly has the added bonus of decent breeding. Certainly one to consider at speculative odds.
Of the unraced the betting should be most informative. Miami Gator has been entered in a selling/claiming race which doesn't impress.

Race review: 'Probably not the strongest of auction races although Oondiri won with a touch to spare after leading all the way. Gower Sophia had beaten the Easterby winner on debut but disappointed here and may have regressed after three races. Itsthursdayalready ran an ok race beating Regardless in third. The Rees filly started well and had a fair chance but seemed to lose her way mid-race and then ran on again. She may have gone closer if not for that. This didn't look a very good race and the form may be limited.'

Flapjack has shown an element of ability and should run a fair race. What I like about this filly is that she battles to the line and her experience will see her well.
Time Lord didn't show too much ability on debut at Bath and ran a little better at Goodwood the other day but was still some way from winning. It may be the case that race set a fair standard and at this time it is still difficult to assess at the moment. Certainly a horse that is progressing with racing.
Of the unraced Fire And Stone is of interest especially as the Dascombe stable has a wealth of talented juveniles.
Reach For The Sky has been entered to run in a selling/claiming race which muay be a negative.
A watching race.
Race review: 'A strange race. Time Lord and Flapjack were with the lead and looked to have a fighting chance, however, the complexion of this race changed markedly in the final furlong with Reach For The Sky, Pullyourfingerout and Just The Tonic powering home to have this field strung out. Hannon's winner was additionally surprising as it had been entered for a selling/claiming race. The second, Pullyourfingerout, hadn't shown much ability but seemed to be transformed and Just The Tonic always travelled well and ran on to take third. This is a difficult race to appreciate at this time. It may be quite good, however, the fact that Hannon's had been entered for such a poor race and the second not showing any particular ability before makes it rather puzzling.'

Absolute Music and Reddy To Star set a decent standard of form and should take some pegging back with valuable experience on their side. Cowell's juvenile ran out a promising second place at Ascot. Relatively fancied in the betting (5/1) and showing ability, the winner won well and the form would suggest a decent run here. Reddy To Star disappointed on debute but certainly made up for that next time at Warwick. A lovely, fluent runner this colt is not the biggest but a sturdy type and will run well.
Duke Of Rainford is quite an interesting runner for Ian Williams. It wouldn't be a surprise to see this colt show much more today as he was well backed on debut but never had a chance after a slow start and very inexperienced. Williams has a decent two-year-old in My Mandy and this relatively expensive colt was entered to run in the Brocklesby and Lily Agnes stakes races. This certainly conflicts with a poor debut but if these entries have some worth, then a better effort may be on the cards. Certainly a horse worthy of greater consideration than its form or betting suggests.
The betting should tell the chances of Nosedive. Flaxen lake, from Reg Hollinsheads stable, would be of interest in backed as he does find a winner or two on debut.
An intriguing race.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Not too many got into this and it was a battle between Absolute Magic and Reddy To Star, with the former winning by a neck. Duke Of Rainford was once again backed but looks very inexperienced and clearly needs more time to understand what is needed.'

Mijas Playa sets a fair standard for the opposition to attain - and they will need to be plenty forward and have a good level of ability to beat her on debut. This filly will hold the aces as far as fitness and experience go and should be a tough nut to crack. However, colts from Hannon and Jarvis make interesting opposition.
Hannon's Angel's Pursuit cost £190,000 at a recent breeze-up sale in April. Considering Hannon trained the filly (Kurtanella) to beat Mijas Playa at Newbury, connections may feel confident that their two-year-old has the edge. Clearly giving away valuable experience will be difficult but money for this juvenile would speak volumes.
Dahakka, trained by Micheal Jarvis, must be respected especially if this juvenile is a relatively short price in the betting.
This looks to be a three-horse race on paper and the other juveniles from less fashionable stables will certainly need to be something special to figure here. (It can happen, but not very often.) Mijas Playa will try to make her experience count but one of the colts may have the ability to challenge her. Money is the key to this race.
A watching race.
Mary's pet (NR)
Race review: 'Angel's Pursuit made an impressive debut beating a fair form horse in the process in Mijas Playa. This colt is a juvenile with scope and breeding to attain a higher level. The betting told the story and clearly connections were confident they could put down a strong challenge Dwyer's filly. She has been unlucky to lose on the last two occasions and done little wrong. Dahakaa was weak in the betting and looked rather hot in the paddock but ran with great credit and may well improve.'

2:45 Beverley (23rd May)
Three form horses will be fancied in the betting although all have less than ideal draws (if the best ground is on the far rail).
Pinnacle Lad has plenty of pace and may try to gain an early lead and gain a favourable position against a number of debutantes. I have slight reservations about this colt finishing his race and another problem is that the form of Ripon may be limited. I wasn't impressed how easily Novay Essjay was outpaced when stepping up to stakes race and 6f. I think Spearing's juvenile will get a lead and do well to hold on.
I quite like Orpen Arms and Rio Caribe. They both ran well on their last starts and the form of those two contests looks pretty decent for auction level. The former juvenile trained by Fahey will appreciate this stiffer test and no doubt be running on well at the finish. This remark goes for Rio Caribe who struggled to go the pace at Doncaster before running on very well after looking a lost cause for most of that race. Walford's gelding, as does Fahey's, has a poor draw in stall two and it is a difficult one to contemplate. I have no doubt that Rio Caribe will be outpaced by Spearing's juvenile. I am not keen on betting in-running but I can see this runner being a much bigger price mid-race and he will run on at the death. Whether he can beat the draw is another thing. Interesting.
Of the unraced, My One Weakness was entered to run in the Brian Yeardley but takes this easier option.
Mon Brav was entered in the Brocklesby and has taken all this time to appear on course after, presumably, having a problem. Carroll recently had a very easy winner although he rarely wins on debut.
The draw is a quandary. This should go to one of the form horses and I feel Spearing' Pinnacle Lad will try to make all and probably fail. I would go for the Fahey and Walford pair although the draw is far from ideal.
A watching race.
Race review: 'An average auction maiden won by a debutant, Mon Brav. Carroll (trainer) has a decent two-year-old in the stable with Whozthecat and this juvenile looks to have a chance of going on as it's not easy task to win at the first time of asking. Pinnacle Lad ran a decent race and has plenty of speed to burn. Over a quick 5f he should have a chance of winning a race. Orpen Arms wasn't helped by the draw but seemed to be held, although, in truth, there isn't much between the form horses. Rio Caribe was forced to run wide from his unfavourable draw and unlike Doncaster could never quite get into the race. Walford's two-year-old really is in need of a very fast run 5f or preferably 6f to be seen at best. The form horses have just enough ability to win an auction race. Midnight Martini was particularly unlucky as she was confronted by a wall of horses in the final furlong. A decent-looking filly, she could improve a good deal from this.'

Fratellino seemed to be rocket powered at York winning with ease. He is certainly a pocket rocket and no doubt McCabe will be instructing Joe Fanning to try and win this race in the first two furlongs. Fratellino success or failure falls into two camps: those who think his earlier runs at Ascot and Chester didn't show his true running or those who conclude that the York race just didn't amount to much. It is an interesting one. I feel he will have to run a race and a half to reverse the form with Archers Road.
Channon's Archers Road has been a beautifully consistent horse from the start of the season and continues in good form. You get the impression that this colt enjoys his racing and I hope he doesn't become tainted by one run too many. As usual, I will be cheering him to the line.
On form, Ventura Cove needs to improve a good deal to beat Fratellino, if that was his true running. Fahey's two-year-old may be better suited by this ground and a greater test of stamina.
What can I say about Lees Anthem. He is becoming something of an enigma. It is the 'will he or won't he' scenario. Meaning will he actually run in a straight line, try to win the race and decide not (I pray) to jump through the rails. I really do feel for Teague and connections with this lovely-looking colt because there is no doubting he has abundant ability. On a good day you would have to consider that he could beat Archers Road, but on the other side of the coin, you have to wonder...and never stop wondering! I hope that Lees Anthem is settled in behind or with other horses as he definately has a quirk about being in front on his own - he doesn't like it. Perhaps he will be all the wiser today and I would be so pleased to see him run a stormer but you would have to be a brave person to back him. The only exception would be a truly speculative price, however, that won't be the case. Good luck to connections and I really hope this strapping colt runs a race.
Hearts Of Fire looked to have regressed from his decent win in the Brocklesby. I thought Eddery's colt looked a shadow of itself - on the weak side. I hope he can come back and show that debut form as he clearly has ability.
A fascinating race. I will be cheering on Archers Road and Lees Anthem.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Fratellino scorched to a decent lead in an attempt to win and probably went a stride too fast, tiring in the final furlong, setting it up for Archers Road who won readily. This colt deserved his third win and really hasn't done anything wrong all season. Hearts Of Fire came back to his Doncaster form today showing his second run to be all wrong. He is a fair sort and Eddery must be pleased to be back on track with this prospect. Janeiro is a fine-looking colt and ran much better today after a slow start at Southwell. A very good effort for a second start. Cove Ventura was beaten fair and square at York by Fratellino taking this race into consideration. If Fratellino hadn't gone a stride too fast, Fahey's runner would have been beaten by a similar distance. Island Express deserves credit for a good run in this higher grade. Lees Anthem came with a chance but still wandered about and looks a very difficult ride. You just can't put your money on him.'

Mark Johnston's Step In Time took a good while to get motoring at Haydock but ran an encouraging race and is likely to improve today. This colt by Giant's Causeway was relatively short priced which adds to his chances and a decent run is expected here. The form of that race has given rather mixed signals with Kylladdie winning a poor race at Ripon while Reeds Bay was comprehensively beaten at Newcastle. However, I can see this juvenile improving a good deal and battling away as is usually expected of a Johnston runner.
Running Mate featured in the second division of that Haydock maiden and looked the weaker of the two maidens, although the times were similar. Gosden's two-year-old was very well backed that day and travelled with ease for most of the race before being run out of it by a late charge at the finish. It's possible this colt by Acclamation may have needed the run. A number of Gosden's juveniles have followed this trait in previous seasons.
Fanstatic Prince didn't show too much sparkle on debut. He's Invincible was a costly purchase at 120,000eur. It makes me wonder if Dettori had the choice of of rides and favoured Cole's today, which wouldn't speak well for the Meehan runner. His juveniles are usually better for the run.
Tiradito has been a relatively short price on both starts and after showing a touch of promise at Yarmouth disappointed at Salisbury. This is a difficult horses to assess as it could just be the case that it has ability. Unless this colt is a speculative price (which it won't be) I wouldn't consider its chances and take a watching brief. It has too many question marks for its own good and may disappoint again. There will be no excuses today.
This may not be a straightforward race.
A watching race.
Race review: 'An intriguing race that is difficult to fathom. They set off at a pretty modest pace and a number of these were pulling and took time to settle, especially the winner, Step In Time, and Tiradito. Mark Johnston's victor is a good-looking colt (as were the whole field to be fair), always travelled well and was seemingly held by Cole's Fantastic Prince who probably lost the race by wandering away from the whip in the final furlong. Running Mate had every chance and was given a very easy ride by Fortune, simply being pushed out. Tiradito is difficult to weigh up. He pulled hard for a couple of furlongs and then ran about, and is a very awkward ride, before running on well in the final furlong to suggest that he may have won over further. Rumool ran well on debut, too. It is difficult to know whether this was a god race or not. They were a good-looking bunch so it may be the case that all have a chance of going on from this. The jury is out at the minute.'

Barzan seemingly ran a creditable race on debut, beaten by the impressive Canford Cliffs. With very few form horses as a guide it is somewhat difficult to assess the merit of that performance other than thinking the winner is very good. This relatively expensive breeze-up purchase will have experience on his side and should take some beating.
Midnight Uno is an attractive sort but his form looks pretty ordinary and having been entered to run in a selling/claiming race doesn't add to the chances of attaining any great ability.
Of the others Dubawi Phantom and the filly Hairspray are both from stables capable of winning a race on debut although they will need to be fit and ready.
Barzan is the obvious choice but not easy to assess and may be vulnerable at a short price.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Barzan made the most of his experience and won with a fraction in hand from Going French, a debutant for Roger Curtis, who ran a fine race all the way to the line. The pair left the others in their wake. Dubawi Phanton was well backed - mainly because they couldn't give Channon's away - and had little chance after a slow start.'

2:10 Newcastle (22nd May)
Lucky Rave and Reeds Bay ran well on debut in two divisions of a Haydock maiden where the winning times where pretty much the same. It is encouraging the ground looked to be on the softer side that day and this is potentially a drop in class. I can see these juveniles running well. The main concern being the draw, especially if they split into two groups which is likely to happen.
Arabian Pride, trained by David Simcock, was a costly purchase at £110,000gns and Jamie Spencer has superb statistics when riding for this trainer. In addition, Simcock has a impressive win and place rate with juveniles priced 13/2 and less on debut. This colt by Cadeaux Genereux has breeding to appreciate these testing conditions. His trainer has given positive comments about this juvenile in Steve Taplin's Two-Year-Olds publication. There are certainly many signs indicating a decent run, however, it will be no easy task giving experience away unless this youngster has plenty of ability.
Gold Story has been entered to run in the Brian Yeardley stakes race at Beverley and this could be significant although Ellison isn't renowned for winning on debut.
Others to note are Count Bertoni and Kaptain Kirkup. Both of these trainers are capable of winning at big odds and seem to have the knack of winning on soft ground, especially Dods (Kaptain Kirkup).
A number of interesting juveniles contesting this race. The draw and soft ground make assessment all the more difficult.
A watching race.
Lucky Rave (NR)
Race review: 'A nice performance by Kaptain Kurkup who won with a bit in hand of these in what may turn out to be a fair auction event. Dods' winner has the scope to progress from this race - an encouraging start to his career. Count Bertoni is no slouch and Tate has the way of training good, battling types which don't give up without a fight. This colt will be winning. Arabian Pride was all the rage in the betting and may have been a shade unlucky. For one reason or another he was tardy from the stalls and looked to have too much to do before running on strongly in what seemed to be a winning challenge before tiring in the last 100m. Clearly this juvenile has ability and should do better on his next start. Hairs Vital showed up better today after contesting a stakes race on his racecourse bow. The first four went clear of Reeds Bay. McMahon two-year-old travelled well until being totally outpaced in the last two furlongs. It is difficult to know whether he disappointed or not. The time at Haydock suggested the ground was on the soft-side that day so it would pay to be cautious after this. Not the most attractive of juveniles - on the small side - time may tell that he was simply beaten by four above average horses. It is possible this Fretwell-owned juvenile will bounce back although he certainly didn't win many votes today.'

Of the form horses none is great but a number have shown ability and it will take a very good performance for one of the unraced to win this on their first start.
Little Perisher is a sturdy colt with plenty of speed and probably just about the form pick. This step up to 6f on softer ground may be a test too far and I would have doubts about him getting the distance.
Be Invincible will enjoy this better ground and 6f. He has a very pronounced running action and not the most attractive of movers to be fair. The Windsor race wasn't the hottest of contests but credit should be given to Hills' juvenile as he ran wide and made up many lengths to win from a low draw. I can see him improving for the stiffer test.
Walkingonthemoon was well beaten by Little Perisher and connections will be hoping the run at Ascot didn't show his worth. Certainly a question mark over that performance and the form of the Newbury win on debut has taken many knocks since and that is a concern.
Roi De Vitesse flew home at Nottingham to win on the line. That race, again, has not held up as well as initially considered. Millman's colt may improve for 6f.
Both Shark Man and Maidtorun are battling types and will not give up without a fight.
Urban clubber didn't look the most imposing of individuals and ran a so so race at Haydock on debut. It may have been the case that this colt was second string that day as Howard Johnson had the winner in the first division and he has been entered to run in three stakes races which is a good sign. His trainer has very good place statistics on second start and may improve, although certainly needs to.
Not the easiest of races to appreciate but interesting nonetheless.
Race review: 'An interesting stakes race won by the improving Roi De Vitesse who appreciated this step up to 6f on more testing ground. Walkingonthemoon bounced back from his Ascot run and it is interesting that both Dascombe and McCabe's Fratellino have shown that performance to be all wrong. I wonder if there was a bias at Ascot with the other runners going along the rail. Be Invisible looked rather one paced, finishing third.'

2:15 Goodwood (21st May)
None of the form horses set the greatest of standard and preference is for those making their racecourse bow.
Richard Hughes was originally booked to ride Footstepsofspring at the five-day declarations so him choosing to partner Big Audio must be seen as a negative for the former, now a mount for Dane O'Neill.
Mich Channon has a decent record at Goodwood and connections will be hoping this £100,000gns purchase, Aattash, a colt by Clodovil, will have ability.
John Dunlop is another trainer than has to be respected at Goowood and if this colt is fancied in the betting then I would expect a big race. No doubt the Goodwood Racehorse Owners Group will be relishing a run for their money at their home course.
A outsider worth noting is Foxtrot Foxtrot. Peter Winkworth does well at Goodwood, especially when Jim Crowley is in the saddle. This trainer can win at any price.
An intriguingly open race.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This looked an open race and they were strung out by the finish. Goodwood Maestro was weakish in the betting but ran a great race on debut and prevailed over Footstepsofspring, a good-looking sort, who ran a much better race on his second start. Time Lord was well backed and ran ok. Big Audio should improve from this experience. A good-looking colt with size and scope I can see this juvenile showing more next time. Running from a high draw and on the outside of the field Hughes didn't give his mount a hard time when all chance had gone. The five-day jockey bookings suggested that this was Hughe's selection although it is never straightforward trying to assume Hannon's intentions. Most of these juveniles have something to prove - a weak race.'

Above Limits is a decent filly and ran a fine race on debut against experienced opposition. A strong, good-look type she will be a short price here but it will take a fair two-year-old to beat her. The only slight concern being a low draw, although experience should allow her to gain a more favourable position.
Of the unraced, Exotic Beauty and Fleeting Echo are interesting sorts for Channon and Hannon respectively. She's ok, trained by Clive Brittain, is an rare ride for Dettori, and her trainer has some decent two-year-olds as lines of form. Brittain has a poor win rate on debut although he has had two winners on their racecourse bow this term.
Itwasonlyakiss showed terrific speed when racing at Windsor on debut and if she faded due to lack of fitness she may be worthy of respect.
Above limits will take some beating.
A watching race.
Race review: 'A fascinating race between Above Limits and Itwasonlyakiss. Dascombe's winner is a fair juvenile and a lovely stamp of a filly: big, strong and athletic. I was surprised how well John Hills' (second) ran although she was well backed and relatively short for one from this stable. Clearly Itsonlyakiss improved from the run and shouldn't have any problem winning a race after this. A decent, battling type I was impressed with her dogged determination trying to win.'

6:00 Salisbury (21st May)
Many of the form horses haven't shown much ability and with a number of unraced juveniles from unfashionable stables this race is difficult to assess.
Of the form horses, Radio City and Sir Parky are most interesting as jockey bookings and being relatively short prices on debut may indicate greater hope today. Beckett's, Radio City, ran in a bizarre race at Kempton, which seemed to turn into a two furlong sprint. It is additionally significant that this colt has been given a stakes race entry but needs to improve.
Sir Parky, again, achieved little on debut at Haydock after a slow start. His starting price of 5/1 would suggest that more was expected and you certainly wouldn't say this isn't possible especially dropping to 5f.
Potentially this looks a poor race and most don't give much encouragement.
A watching race.

Race review: 'Bar the winner, this had the look of a modest race. Sir Parky didn't register on debut but today was a different story and this colt has scope to improve with racing. Tucker's Law transformed from his Bath debut and ran on well to the line suggesting a step up to six furlongs would suit. Radio City showed speed for our furlongs but faded and was rather disappointing. Pleased to see The Shuffler winning some prize money in fourth. This race didn't take much winning.'

2:50 Goodwood (20th May)
Two form horses on show here. La Pantera is tissue favourite but I can't say I was impressed by her performance on debut. That was a pretty poor race and this filly by Captain Rio is rather small and lightly built. It might be the case that a step up to 6f on better ground will bring about improvement. Patrick Hills rode that day and today Hughes is in the saddle which may indicate greater hopes, however, I wouldn't jump in at short odds as the Windsor form looks weak to me.
Anjomarba has had her limitations exposed in a competitive race at Wolverhampton and she looks more of an auction horse to me and probably better suited to 5f.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see an unraced juvenile win this race. What is interesting here is that a number of these debutantes have unusual jockey bookings, either riding for trainers you wouldn't expect or contrasting with initial five-day declarations. These are detailed below.
Firstly, It's A Deal has a negative jockey booking with Saleem Golam riding and Jim Crowley (who must have had the choice) is riding Agony And Ecstasy, who additionally has been given a stakes race entry.
Ashkalara was originally a booked ride for Kirsty Milczarek but she has chosen to take one ride at Lingfield (2:35 Mixing) which doesn't give encouragement to Howes juvenile even though it has been entered for a stakes race.
Flyinflyout has a stakes race entry, which adds to her interest.
Eddie Ahern was booked early to ride Falling Angel at the five-day declarations so this may be the favoured runner for Cole.
This looks a very confusing affair with the form horses not attaining the highest of standards and the unraced having queries regarding jockey bookings.
A watching race.
Race review: 'La Pentara won quite well after half struggling to go the pace until the final furlong. She continued Hannon's hold on this race in recent years and improved markedly for the step up to 6f. There is no doubt this filly had something of a transformation here. The Paul Cole duo ran well and looked for much of the way to hold the aces. Both showed good speed and quite well built for fillies and capable of better. This was a strange race giving the impression that few juveniles were capable of winning today and this was expressed with a fluctuating market. Anjomarba has an element of speed but ideally needs 5f and a drop in class.'

2:10 Yarmouth (19th May)
On the face of it Izaaj must be a strong contender for this race. This juvenile ran well on debut and especially so when through inexperience he didn't have a race. I can see this colt by Giant's Causeway improving significantly.
Clan Piper was a short price on debut at Newbury but didn't show a jot. It may be the case that this was colt by Exceed And Excel has a fair level of ability having been entered for a stakes race and the Phoenix stakes (Group 1) in Ireland. Gosden is a very talented trainer, and if short priced again, it would probably be foolish to suggest this two-year-old cannot show improvement. At a short price, it would probably be wise to take a watching brief.
Rock Of Love didn't show must ability last time at Hamilton considering the winner that day has subsequently been beaten in a selling race. The step up to 6f will help but Johnston's juvenile has much to prove here.
Of the rest Fonterutoli has been entered to run in a stakes race. Marco Botti has a big string of two-year-olds this season and a well-backed winner a few days back.
A race where a number of runners have something to prove and at the prices there isn't much to be gained for taking a chance.
Izaaj will certainly run a decent race.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Izaaj was a short price and given a fright by Rock Of Love who left his Hamilton race well behind him. Clan Piper has been a costly failure on both outings and unless there is something mysterious happening doesn't possess ability.'

2:20 Musselburgh (19th May)
Final Ovation comes from a Doncaster maiden which is working out well. It is somewhat baffling, considering his performance, that he has been entered to run in a selling/claiming race which doesn't read well and would make me treat this Quinn runner with caution.
Military Call has shown an element of ability. He was well backed last time but made to look very slow against Red Avalanche who is a decent sort but you would have hoped the McMahon two-year-old would have done a little more that day. Clearly this is a lower grade race and if Military Call is going to win it will probably be in this event. A lovely-looking colt he has a decent hope of getting off the mark.
Magical Macey is relatively short in the tissue market, however, Tom Eaves wasn't originally booked to ride for Barron in the five-day declarations. I imagine Phillip Makin had the choice of these two mounts and for that reason I would plump for Commanche Raider. Dods has a good win and place rate on debut and can often pop up at a big price. I wouldn't be surprised if this colt by Tale Of The Cat runs a decent race.
Reignier didn't show much ability on debut, but this nice-looking colt may be capable of more. Karl Burke is a very talented trainer and he is capable of transforming horses from one start to the next. If this horse is backed it would be a good sign.
Bet 1PT EW REIGNIER (AVAILABLE 7/1) 1st
Race review: 'Probably not the greatest of races but a big turn around in form regarding Military Call and Reignier. Burke's juvenile, an entrant for the Brian Yeardley, ran out a decent winner to defeat Final Ovation by a couple of lengths. Quinn's second ran well along the rail and looks quite a powerful type. Maison Brillet deserves much credit for his run on debut especially considering he had a slow start and an outside draw. Military Call was well backed and may have disappointed to some extent. He certainly has much to prove after this.'

6:10 Leicester (19th May)
Tawaabb ran a very good race on debut, 2nd to Crown, and with that experience behind him will take some beating. Channon has entered this juvenile in three stakes races and he clearly has high hopes for this runner. However, this may not be an easy task.
State Fair ran well on debut at Newbury but what impressed most about this good-looking colt is that I could imagine huge improvement. Having been pulled out of a maiden at Salisbury because of the ground, this better going will help especially as he has quite a knee bend that suggests these softer conditions will suit. I can see Cole's youngster being backed once again.
I am slightly disappointed to see Bebenine taking part in this race. She isn't the most talented of fillies and more of an auction horse in truth. I can see her struggling against these more talented colts although she must have a fair chance of a place. She is better than her Chester running and could have been a decent bet in lower grade, but, unfortunately, she takes her chance here.
This looks out of Channon and Cole's juveniles and it could be a battle.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Tawaabb won this in style. I can't say I was particularly impressed with State Fair who I thought would improve a good few lengths from his debut effort. George Baker looked to run better on this second start although I would be careful in assessing this performance as the winner won with ease and if Cole's ran a so so race then the form could be limited. Bebenine is capable of better and as long as she hasn't regressed to the extreme will have a chance in auction or selling class.'

2:10 Southwell (18th May)
Southwell is never a very competitive track for two-year-olds and most of these juveniles look poor. Koo And The Gang will take some beating here although it may be slightly concerning if he runs down the rail (from his high draw) as there seemed to be a low-draw bias at the last meeting and that could be a concern.
Tom Dascombe has been firing on all cylinders with his two-year-olds this season and if there is strong support for Janeiro it would be significant. This colt by Captain Rio has a low draw and in a poor race has to be viewed as one of the more likely types in a race of this nature.
Ginger Ted may be progressing with racing and showed very good speed last time with the addition of blinkers. Clearly going back from 6f to 5f may take the edge of such pace but he is a sturdy-looking gelding and may have a fighting chance today.
I don't think this race will take much winning, however, the draw, surface and betting have to be considered here. Koo And The Gang is the most guaranteed of these but at a short price he is there to be shot at and if they take the rail route (and there is a bias) many people will be pulling out their hair.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This was a poor auction race but won by a deserving Koo And The Gang who made a bold bid from the front to hang on from the late charge of Singeur. If anything, the low draw was a negative (as is usually the case) and Bastiman's juvenile ran a creditable race making up many lengths to hold a fighting chance. Janeiro was always struggling after a slow start and then racing on the far rail, which didn't help. This colt may be capable of better but this race doesn't set the highest of standards. Koo And The Gang is a good, strong colt and may progress from here.'
