2:55 Newmarket (24th May)

A maiden race over 5f featuring a decent form horse and two likely unraced opposition, in this field of six at Newmarket.

Mijas Playa sets a fair standard for the opposition to attain - and they will need to be plenty forward and have a good level of ability to beat her on debut. This filly will hold the aces as far as fitness and experience go and should be a tough nut to crack. However, colts from Hannon and Jarvis make interesting opposition.

Hannon's Angel's Pursuit cost £190,000 at a recent breeze-up sale in April. Considering Hannon trained the filly (Kurtanella) to beat Mijas Playa at Newbury, connections may feel confident that their two-year-old has the edge. Clearly giving away valuable experience will be difficult but money for this juvenile would speak volumes.

Dahakka, trained by Micheal Jarvis, must be respected especially if this juvenile is a relatively short price in the betting.

This looks to be a three-horse race on paper and the other juveniles from less fashionable stables will certainly need to be something special to figure here. (It can happen, but not very often.) Mijas Playa will try to make her experience count but one of the colts may have the ability to challenge her. Money is the key to this race.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Angel's Pursuit made an impressive debut beating a fair form horse in the process in Mijas Playa. This colt is a juvenile with scope and breeding to attain a higher level. The betting told the story and clearly connections were confident they could put down a strong challenge Dwyer's filly. She has been unlucky to lose on the last two occasions and done little wrong. Dahakaa was weak in the betting and looked rather hot in the paddock but ran with great credit and may well improve.'
